Tomei Poncam discovery in my Evo8

I took off my valve cover to see how healthy it looked under there and I found out that the cams said Tomei. I believe they are the tomei poncams, because they dont have an aggressive idle. With that being said, how good are the Poncams? Im shooting for about 500+ whp. I plan on going with a 6262 turbo set up and keep it 2.0L. Any advice will be great and maybe a recommendation on my new set.

Thanks guys,
Sebastian

I have those cams on myEvo IX. Its got a 2.3L AMS stroker with a FP HTA35r and all the standard bolt-ons. My car did 580 at the wheels (corrected) at ~26-27psi in Denver last summer. The car had more in it, but we ran out of fuel so couln't turn the boost any higher for the dyno session.

I went with the Poncams b/c I wanted more mid-range and I didn't care about high rpm performance (sometimes my car runs on a 34mm restrictor which kills power above 6000rpm). My car is used for hillclimb racing at high altitude, so mid-range power is what I was after.

I don't know that'd I'd be able to answer that...I'm just giving you the reason I chose mild cams vs a 280 or something like that.

I do think you'd probably give up some upper end HP for some mid-range power, so it'll depend on what your end goals are. If you drag race, I think the mid-range sacrifice is probably not a big deal.

Hopefully some other people will chime in as my build was a bit different than the typical build on here.

Curious to go with HKS 280 cams while I still have my IX turbo installed and go E85. From the research I've found, my small Tomei's are really just a mid range cam and I wont gain as much peak hp.. Can someone chime in on these cams?
