1,2,3,4,5th gear whine

I have searched and I am leaning towards the transmission and not the TFC but I am not sure. It happens at low speeds and is worse in 1st/2nd. You can still hear it if you are going slower in the other gears and if you push the clutch in it goes away. When I got the timing belt changed the mechanic said that it was normal but Im not so sure. I am getting close to my warranty being up and want to get it fixed if they will cover it.

i dont think warranty would cover that. sounds like a clutch/ fly wheel problem. if you keep running like that more than likely something will break.

Ok so upon further inspection it is 1st and 2nd gear that is making some noise to around 3500rpm but goes away when you push the clutch in. There is another noise that is coming from the other side of the motor below the cam gears. That is the noise that I am hearing in all gears and when you rev at idle. I just had the 60k service done along with the timing belt service. So maybe the 1st 2nd is normal but what is the other sound.

Have you thought about the throw out bearing? What year is it and is it a 5 or 6 speed?

same, 5 speed. Shifting on mine is fine other than the going from 2nd to 3rd kinda clunks into gear sometimes but other than the noise it is fine.

Other posts say if you push the clutch in and it goes away then it is not the transfercase.

Evo's exhibit gear whine more than your typical production car.. the transmission gears have a slightly straighter cut than what you'd find on your sister's Accord. Have you ever heard the gear whine of a race tranny that has dog cut gears? We're talking straight cut gears. The reason that production car gears have angled cuts on them is to minimize gear whine. I'm sure you noticed the gear whine right away after you first bought your Evo. First & second do whine a bit more than the other gears though... If you're talking about an abnormal whine that is louder than it should seem, sounds like there might be a problem. Particularly if there is a major whine upon decel when you're in say 1st gear. Accelerate to like 15 or 20 mph, then let off the throttle. If it exhibits a loud whine, you probably have a tranny issue. On my original tranny, I ran 3 passes at the dragstrip using launch control. The vht stuff they spray for added traction would bog the motor every time.. couldn't launch it properly. After that, my 1st gear particularly make a loud whine upon decel. Took a rebuilt tranny to fix that! Never heard what a bad transfer case sounds like, so can't comment on that... the other noise you're referring to when revving at idle, might need to get a little more descriptive..

Maybe belts too tight.
