Stand alone engine management on an EVO?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I've searched and found some various information about stand alone ECUs from this site. What I mainly found were people using the flash and some people starting to use the AEM. I've seen the AFC (like Apex'i) used in many cases, but I was more concerned with a true stand-alone setup.

Has any one been successful in installing one yet (from manufacturers such as Motec, Accel, Electromotive, etc...)?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

AEM and Autronic plug and play units ARE full standalone's

There is no reason you couldn't hook up a tec or a motec ecu to the engine the units are pretty versatile.
Things would be different if the engine used a phased camshaft, or other complex electronic functions.

The evo functions are pretty standard compared to other cars on the market.

Haltech too. I think the benefits of the AEM EMS and Autronic are that you definitely won't have to be splicing anything.

Autotronic is pretty much full stand alone in my book. BTW I was very impressed with the Power FC Djetro I toyed with at the track yesterday- the drivability was very good and the controller and interface was easy and quick

Thanks for your quick responses.

As you stated Aaron, the ones that are FULL stand alone concern me, not piggyback systems. You did point out what exactly what I was lookig for...that the engine doesn't have that complicated stuff that other cars do (or that my previous project had). That is good to know!

We are currently running the AEM complete standalone on our EVO8. They should be ready within weeks for sale.

Whats going to be the differnce between the UTEC, and the AEM EMS?
Shahul, are they coming out with it soon, or after SEMA?
My plan is to wait till after SEMA and then go part hunting..

I don't know a ton about this but I know that the UTEC is just a really nice piggy back vs. a standalone
