73 HTA Green on my early evo

Its on. But have some minor kinks to work out before tuning. First impressions is its a big turbo. Lost quite a bit of lively hood below 3500rpm comparred to the 20g (tomie, map SST size turbo) I was running. First runs at 14.5 psi. very boring. second runs t 19.5 psi. Decent fun but still feels laggy for the power. last runs at 27psi are a whole nother story. Its an absolute beast with boost. Estimate 480WHP. In this lite chassis its like 580 evo 8 HP

setup is simple.
10/1 2.0 liter with balance shafts for smoothness.
FP2 cams with evo 8 springs.
custom 2.5 pipes feeding XS engineering core. chosen for good feed to radiator.
stupid quiet 3 inch exhaust
73 HTA evo X turbo adapted for early 4g use.
walbro with spring mod and 18V under boost
E-85

how do the pumps hold up @ 18v?
how do you raise the voltage system? capacitor system?

running pump at higher voltage does not hurt pump. its easier on them than lower voltage. I used a Kenny Bell boost-a-pump. its that red thingy on the batterry

found data on net supra pump at 13.8 volts 260l/hr, at 18volts it jumped to 320l/hr...

I have two mods left before tune.

find correct injector for car and convert to speed density.

The injectors on car now are ID 1000s. they dont hot start well for me at all. plus currently one shuts off on me for unknown reason. if I stop engine and restart it comes back to life. gotta track that problem down. It shut down on me once at high rpm and cause some very un-nerving sounds.

what ecu are you running?
Do you have a feedback loop keeping the ECU on or anything?

I am using a 1995 ecu from eclipse with DSM link.
I dont have the factory 02 on car, but can disable 02 feedback in DSMlink.

Once I get the wide band connected to ECU I can simulate 02 feedback with the link using the wideband signal.

So the 73HTA can get me to 500whp on E85, right? About how much boost do you estimate to get this done (of course with the correct supporting mods)? Thanks.

Nice setup. What kind of a exhaust shield (wrap) is that?

btw, you should really get your left toe checked out

Ya your toes are huge and red...possibly an infection.

Could be the beginning stages of Club foot.

Oh this should be good! A turbo I have been dying to see more results from from a member I greatly respect and whose opinion I value. 94AWDcoupe did I even mention you're the man?
So you're saying it's not even worth running below 27psi for your liking, even at 10:1?
Can you please describe what your "stupid quiet exhaust" consists of, what makes it stupid quiet, and whether and how much those reduce performance?

Enough questions for you?

I am having engine failures with this car since running E85. I made a thread about it here. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/al...ml#post8108060

This turbo is a cake walk to make 500whp on E85. on 10/1 it will do it at ~28psi. on 9/1 at ~32psi. the turbo feels laggy to me in the 2500-3500 range. especially at low boost. At low boost the wastegate leaks too much. A leaky flapper kills the TS effect. The difference of boost response between 18psi and 27psi was stupendous.

The red toe is flywheel rolling of the shelf syndrome. Dont wear flip flops in the garage! can be VERY painful.

My stupid quiet exhaust is the result of stock evo 9 muffler at rear (no flapper, using as straight through), and megan full size rear muffler mounted in cat position.
