Whiny Walbro 255
Hi gang. My 255 is all of a sudden much louder than the usual fuel pump hum.
Think its just on its last legs? Any way to save it? Car drives fine... just can hear it standing beside the car is really annoying.

The Walbro 255lph fuel pump is a little on the loud side sometime. Some are a little louder than others, for some odd reason. Is your Walbro loud at all times? There are different stages the pump will run at, depending on driving conditions.

It seems to be loud after driving longer periods of time... say 1 hr plus...
Short drives seems okay, unless they are following a longer drive - then it is still loud as all ****. It is a stressed out type sound. Not the typical Walbro noise.
PS, ITUNE, the JICs are perfect

p.s. Glad you like the JICs. People on here don't give them enough credit, IMO. I love mine.
i had the same problem a cpl days ago and actually i made a thread about it. I took the pump out inspected it and put it back in and its fine now. Mine was as loud as yours btw.
i came to a cpl conlcusions/truth
1) the super high flow ones GSS342 are very loud (thats what i have btw)
2) they dont like the heat, so when its hot outside it will whine
3) long drives (as you mentioned) cause a wine on the pump (which also relates to heat bein build from long drives)
4) The whine DOES NOT have to do with low gas tank (as some mention sometimes)
I tested all these theories and i also talked to the aftermarket performance branch of walbro here in michigan and they also told me the same things, and they also told me that IF the pump goes bad it will just stop working and if you want you can send it back to walbro for inspections, and if its their fault they will sent you a new one....so no worries when they whine.
