Turbo Issue-- Butterfly Gasket?

I had my 60K done last week and noticed that the sound my car used to make in RPMs just above idle had grown considerably. It still made a sputtering sound around 1000rpm only now there an additional metal ringing sound in the 1500-1800 RPM range. I just came back from the dealership and they said they think they've isolated it to the 'butterfly gasket' between the wastegate and turbo. They said it might just be 'in that area' and could be part of the turbo-- hence the metal sound. My real issue is that it feels like my car isnt boosting properly. At higher speeds and RPMs (highway driving) it feels about right but starting from a stop in lower gears it just isnt boosting properly.

Anyone had an issue or any thoughts on this?

That really makes no sense. I'd have them check to make sure the timing belt and all related components are properly lined up.

Yeah I have a buddy of mine checking it out on Friday. Once I get a proper diagnostic Ill either have him fix it or if its something the dealership did have them do it.

Definitely fed up with stealerships at this point. $1,200 later and the car is misfiring and not boosting right with all kinds of weird noises? Total BS.

Is the noise you're hearing raspy? Also, when you're driving, does is build in noise level then go away after a certain RPM?

The sound thats just before and after idle was raspy and sputtering--Ive had that sound since I got the car. The new sound from 1500-1800 RPM (which is the only time it does it) is more a metal ringing that almost sounds like an old school door bell or something.

Its most audible at slower speeds and in lower gears since it only happens from 1800RPM or lower. I still feel like the car is driving correct once Im up in 3rd gear or higher.. its just 1st and 2nd where it feels sluggish and doesnt seem like its boosting properly.

Checkin it tomorrow...

Bringing the car to Autobahn in Peabody MA to see if they can find the cause of the boost issue and hopefully the strange sound. Hoping both issues are being caused by the same problem.

Verdict:

OK so its the turbine housing. Turns out its not always opening/closing properly hence the sporadic boost issue. They also said thats the cause of the sound Im hearing.

So its clear I have to replace it... here's what Im thinking:

Has anyone picked this up? Im wondering if the port and ceramic coating is worth it and what is the benefit? I heard it allows the boost to come on faster and to last longer, true?
