Dosn't anyone read the warnings that APEXI places on the box?

Its insane to install one of those with ANY aftermarket parts without having the proper tools to tune it and make sure its safe

Either Pruven or B & M tranny could dial it in for you for one hour of tunning - a LOT cheaper than a blown engine

Or you could tune it on the road going 100 right The setting they give out work for everyone else. And why does it have to be your dyno do other dyno's not work. Al you keep pushing you stuff down everyone throat.

On one hand I agree its best to have the proper tool's to tune, on the other, the company's that give out the settings have done plenty of time with the #'s and are running more on the safe side of the #'s. It would be best to get all the nessecary equipment and tune the car yourself and get the MOST out of your engine. But the #'s passed along are on the safe side. As long as you entered them right and have everything hooked up accordingly.

To me using somone elses SAFC settings is like using someone else's used underwear - I rather buy my own - BUT to each his own !

I will post up a graphic in a few mins to demonstrate

Here it is - a guy came to us this Friday with some "borrowed" SAFC settings - his car felt strong as can be and I drove it it was mad fast - couldnt hear any problems or detonation of any kind due to the loud exhuast

Got him on the dyno with my knock meter and it showed detonation like crazy from 4500 to red line - worst knock we ever saw on a evo

His a/f was crazy LEAN like nuts lean - take a look

We were able to get him almost the same HP and the super lean unsafe tune he had when he came in and bring him down to a safer 11.4 a/f

We did two runs back to back to show how repeatable our Dyno Flash settings are one they are burned into the ecu

After seeing a few examples of these kind of dyno sheets we do not recomend "borrowing" safc settings - especially when you have any mods

If you like the safc - (its a great unit) - please go somewhere and have it professionally adjusted to match your car

What ever you guys do.. DO NOT reset your ECU (via disconnecting the battery) after installing one of these... This is when the problems began.. The car was running great before I did this...

ALL FIXED.... Fellow member " superz " who is in my opinion a master mechanic and knows the works of the Evo inside and out was abe to find a solution to my problem... Anyone who needs work done on their Evo's should contact him first before going to some stuck up Speed Shop who think they know everything, when in actuality they know nothing about our Evo's.. His workmanship is top notch and his fees are down to earth...

Thanks for the credit Tom. Im glad your car is ok now. I also believe that majority of problems are dealt with in a bad manner. Too many techs dive into the most negative of fixes(not to mention expensive). Buy this, buy that, you need this, you have too much of that. All these guys that push their product are the ones you need to watch out for. Not everyone can give you an honest word and decent price, be careful of pushy salespeople .

I've found most problems with the S-AFC installs are due to bad ground connections (improperly ordered) or bad splices, or not soldering the connections. I've answered many questions on here about s-afc settings and installations.. the most common problem is a bad connection.. Any defect in your connections WILL trigger a CEL. I've run mine for almost as long as I've owned my Evo and reset the ECU on several occasions without issue. The only difference is I'm using an S-AFC and it doesnt have the splice for the knock sensor.

I'm real close to swapping it out for a Standalone (Or hybrid) or a dynoflash.. I still want to retain some tunability so I may keep the S-AFC installed and go the dynoflash route and then do fine tuning with the s-afc..

The problem had nothing to do with settings or anything of the sort. The problem was that the Knock Sensor wire had become disconnected from the ECU harness... Does anyone know what kind of damage I may have done to my engine? The car drives awsome now, and there are no problems whatsoever.. But I'm still concerned about what may have happened while the car had not knock detection.
