Your syncros may be getting worn out. It could also be your trans fluid being low. Your best bet would be to just change your trans fluid and make sure you're topped off. That may help it a good bit. I recommend mitsu super diaqueen multi gear oil. It comes in a gallon can and its the same fluid for a 6 speed trans but works with 5 speeds as well.
get the cocktail mix fluid for the trans it works great for michigan weather changes, check maperformance.com thats where i got it for my car. the 6spd and 5spd DONT use the same trans fluid so dont get it its not recommended.
Thats correct that the 5sp and 6 spd use different trans fluids but the MR trans fluid is better and people usually run the 6 spd fluid in their 5 spd. Change the trans fluid and if it still grinds, then your 4th gear synchro is going. If you still have warranty, they may fix it. If not, it could cost you.
A rebuild costs usually $900 just for the rebuild and no labor for removing and reinstalling the trans. I'm not sure how much just replacing the synchro would cost. You can get the synchro at the dealership.
