60K Service Question - Idler Pulley and Crankshaft Bolt Torque

I've been performing the 60K service on my Evo IX and ran into a few circumstances that I need some suggestions on.

PS - I've read through the 'How to' section and couldn't get a clear answer to what I'm needing.

First, does anyone have any suggestions on replacing the timing belt idler pulley? It appears to be tucked back behind the power steering pump bracket. I'm torn on removing the pump then the bracket or trying to get both at once. Basically, if anyone has a best practice on this, it would be appreciated.

Second, I've tried a couple of home made tools to keep the crank from spinning while torquing down the crankshaft bolt for the timing belt gear / balance shaft belt gear. Both have failed. Both of the 'How to' topics simply said to torque it. Again, any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Mitsu makes a tool to to hold the crank sprocket while you torque it or loosen it. Most people likely just gun it back on with an impact gun though

it's rare to see a idler pully go at 60k, most that have done many 60k services would agree.

For the Idler pulley I don't think theirs any easy way to removing that. Pump, then the bracket. Doesn't take too long, just a tight space.

For the crank sprocket, removing it seems to be the most pain, I personally do the same thing on all my cars, breaker bar against the floor and just hit the starter real quick. Does the job quickly, and painlessly. Putting it back on, impact on the highest setting with blue-loctite.

I've got almost 80k on mine and the idler pulley is still just fine. I remember trying to get my crank sprocket bolt off and even putting a breaker bar against the ground and spinning the motor wouldn't budge it... It just stopped the motor from spinning lol... Impacts are your friend!

Thanks for all the input. I bought the timing belt kit and it included the idler pulley. I figured I'd get it done since I have it and everything else is apart.

As for the crankshaft bolt, no issues with removal. Impact took it off without a problem. I just wasn't sure if people are zinging it back on or if anyone can get to that 123 lb-ft torque value. I would love to have bought the specific Mistubishi tool, but I couldn't justify spending the money to use it once or twice.

Thanks again and please let me know if you have any other ideas to torque that bolt.
