Fp Red Hotside...
sorry if this is a noob Q but i couldnt find any info... Does the FP Red come with the 10.5 upgraded hotside? Or do i have buy it sep. from my red to upgrade my 9.8? Thanks
Ur question is confusing... are u trying to convert ur 8 into a red? If so, u cant. U need a 9 turbo... If ur buying a red outright, yes it has a 10.5 hotside and 9 compressor, unless u opt for an 80 or 84mm housing
Ported fp black 84mm housing

you can even read it says 10.5 on the housing

FP can configure the Red with either the stock, 64mm IX compressor housing, or their proprietary FP 84mm anti-surge compressor housing. The Red comes standard with the 10.5cm turbine housing. However, upon customer request, FP would probably be willing to use the 9.8cm, instead of the usual 10.5cm turbine housing. At least, in the past, I recall that Robert had said that this was doable. In fact, he used to run a dinky 9.0cm housing on his personal, "Old-School Green.

both of my turbos are brand new not used cores. I got my fp red from central flordia turbo waaaaaaaaaaaaaay under cost new
. I got my fp black directly from Robert like 1 month after they released for a deal
. Coating is done by Carlos at TCC

I don't know Rockster. You'll have to agree that it is possible though. I personally wouldn't put a 9.8 on a Red now. Although before I thought that it was a jiffy idea. However, I would like to see an HTA Green with a 9.8 housing....Don't ask me why though! I am just a curious SOB

EDIT: On a 2.4L stroker anything smaller than a 10.5 is ridiculous. However, the factory did configure the 16G turbo on the stock 2.OL engine with three different turbine housing options for various reasons.

If I had your displacement and a Black, I would only run a fully ported 10.5 housing. On a stroker the 10.5 is the only and best choice.
On a 2Liter the 10.5 is still the best choice in 80% of the possible scenarios. The dinky 9.0 housing was designed especially for the Evo station wagon which weighed more and had an auto tranny. The 9.8 housing came stock on the JDM RS models which had really short gearing.
I have run all three housings and I agree with you that the 10.5 is the best. On a stroker motor it is the ONLY way to go. I ran the 9.0 hsg. on my Old Green and I lost 15 DLL HP between it and a 10.5. I didn't like the 9.0 and I don't know why Robert ran it on his Green.
Yeah, the 10.5 is best. Unless you drive in tight canyon roads with 100 yard straightaways. Then the 9.8cm housing might be a viable alternative. Even I wouldn't be crazy enough to suggest trying either of the two smaller housings on a stroker motivated Black though. Turbine pressure would be crazy.

The 9.0t housing first came on the evo4, they then moved to the 10.5t on the evo5-6, down to the 9.8t on the evo7-8 and back to the 10.5t on the evo8.5-9, so looks like mitsi themselves reckoned the 10.5t housing was better housing overall.
