Spec Clutch?

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an Evo 8 MR. It has a Shep built trans and t-case. The clutch currently in the car is slipping (Act 6 puck) I pulled the transmission this morning and everything looks good as far as the internals. I'm looking to get a twin disk setup. My GF brother has an Exedy twin and swears by it. I don't really respect his opinions much. I was shopping online and came across the Spec Twin. It seems to be priced better and has a hydro throw out bearing. Has anyone used this clutch? If so, how is the engagement/noise/peddle pressure Etc?

Thanks for looking

John

specs have a tendency to explode, although mine on my z has held up over 850+rwhp fine.

most people here use exedy twin, and when they build for higher hp, use the triple. if your going nuts, get the quartermaster but dont expect a long life out of it.

exedy gets my vote.

Spec, as you may find if you search around the forum a bit, is the worst clutch to put in an Evo period.

Exedy and ACT are among the most popular, though I'd never put an ACT in my car. An Exedy Triple is going in my car, which Ill be getting back in a week or so.

Do not purchase a spec twin. It is by far the worst disengaging clutch on the market for evos. I had one and will never purchase a spec clutch ever again. I've had an exedy twin and now a triple. The smoothest clutch I have ever driven on.

I could not be happier with my Exedy Twin HD which is now 200 miles old.

Get Exedy Twin HD, OEM Throw out bearing, SS clutch lines, and an STM Clutch Fork Stop and you will be very pleased.

Peddle pressure is a little bit stiffer, but completely comfortable, especially for everyday driving. It is noisy however, which is the only downside.

Wow.. Is Spec still making twins for the Evo 8/9?

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/se...ec-clutch.html

Have a look at this... I went with an Exedy twin.. couldn't be happier.

I'll tell you what... I haven't heard from anyone in a long time that claimed their Spec clutch was working out for them either.

Ahh yes everyone wants to rebuild their clutch after only 12,000 miles of use

Quatermaster is a racing clutch, an awesome clutch for a high power weekend warrior. Definitely not the best clutch by any means for a low to high power daily driver.

My options were QM Twin, Exedy Twin HD, or Exedy Triple SR. The Exedys last 20-40k+ miles depending on your driving habits and can still hold a power respectively. The QM is bulletproof and light, but longevity is an issue. Its also the cheapest of the aformentioned.

Spec and exedy are two completely different companies with no affiliation.

Whats the Life for a DD Evo with a Exedy Twin and/or Twin HD? I hear so many rumors of it only lasting 10k and need a rebuild as of now my plan is a Red and meth for DD until I built my Motor then maybe a Black.

Exedy twins are known to last upwards of 40,000 miles. Its the Quartermaster twins that are known for lasting 8,000-15,000 miles.

I have the spec twin and I would NOT purchase another. Since the day i had it installed it has had lockout at high rpms. If I dont shift by 6800 rpms, its not happening. As soon as this POS blows out I'm getting a Exedy.
