Battery/Aternator Problem!? Dont know what to do

I relocated the battery to the trunk and afterwards I only had 12.3v Now I have a 2 guage wire running from front to rear. Reason I moved the battery was bc I installed a UICP which had to have the battery relocated. So its in the trunk now with a 2 guage power and ground wire. Ground it connected to the cross bar between the seat and truk, was drilled through and I grounded all the paint off for a good connection.
Then after everything was installed the car was running 12.3v all the time, and not at 13-14v like normal. Car would continued to run till it drained battery. Used a volt meter on test alternator and it read 2.03v which is odd, wasnt even showing 12.3v like the battery. Thinking that the alternator was the problem bought a new one off here with 18k on it. But when I removed the old one took them both to Autozone to have tested and BOTH passed! So I installed new one hoping that the test at AZ was bad, but still same problem. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT CAN BE. Any one have a problem like this before?

Test your battery, if that's good then try to test the alternator on the car and see if the battery is being charged by the alternator. And correct me if I'm wrong (not expert electrician) but you might be reading a lower voltage because of the longer wire. 12.3 vs 13 volts is not a huge discrepancy.

Did you ever think about checking the fuse for batt, or alternator.

How did you connect all the stuff under the hood? It sounds like your alternator may be disconnected and not charging the battery. And where did you read this 2v from?

I already changed the alternator, so I know its not that bc its still doing it. The 2g wire is plenty big bc I also changed that from a 4g. And Battery is less than 6 months old, and the car ran perfectly fine before I moved it to the trunk

Just because ytou changed the alternator doesn't mean there's no break in the system. Do you know for a fact that the alternator is actually charging the battery? There's a tester for that your local mechanic has.

Check the 4 wires going to the alternator. I had one come loose and the car would not charge.

Thinking I would check that ground. The cross bar is on the body while the ground should be to the chassis--. Ground it correctly to the chassis and see if you dont get a completed circuit.

I had my battery in the trunk for a long time and I just put it back in front seems the lenth of wire used and the guage drains the battery and puts stress on the alternator because it has to bring the current to the back and back to the front.

Your Post

Not sure what UICP you have, but I went with the Mini Bat, saves about 30lbs on the front of the car without all the hassle of what your going through. I know you have allot of work in moving your battery, but maybe just wasn't a good idea?

I have the Buschur UICP with their Mini Battery, Had it for 2 yrs here in the desert heat and its been rock solid.

Here is a pic.

Battery in trunk should not cause any problems. It's more than likely something to do with your installation.

Battery in the trunk should not drain battery as sharkbite states.
