would an evo ix turbo really be worth the money for me?

i have a evo vii with the 10.5 hotside. and ive been looking into changing turbos and everyone tells me to go with the ix although they think i have the standard 9.8 hotside.
would it be worth it to go to an evo 9 turbo just to get a little bigger compressor? or should i just wait and get whatever else instead?
also is there any upgrades that can be done to this one? like a bigger compressor and wheel?

Your information says you have a 2005 evo 8 for starters. This means you have an evo 8 turbo with 10.5 hotside housing.

The IX turbos also have 10.5 housing, but compared to the evo 8 turbos, the compressor is slightly larger which produces a tad more power.

Is it worth to upgrade? That depends on your goals for the car. You simply cannot just swap turbos and think it will be ok. To put an evo 9 turbo on an evo 8 you need an evo 9 install kit, which can be purchased from forced performance for about $100, and you will also need a tune.

IMO, if you want to stick with the stock frame turbo, but stay similar power to the evo 9 turbo, look into CBRD's BBK turbo. Search that and you will find endless of information.

If you have the 10.5 hotside, I wouldn't change it out. It's only a few # different. TurboJunkie just went 10.91 on his VIII turbo, as I went 10.63 on my IX turbo, so they are both VERY capable.

ok what about putting a 20g wheel and compressor on it? my goals are 24-25 psi pump gas tuned of course. but id like to not be killing the stock turbo.
if i have the 10.5 hotside then what needs to be different to bolt it up?

Okay, it will be worth the money if you picked up a good deal on the IX turbo and do the swap from yours. And from your status, you have a 10.5 hotside on your VIII turbo, so you technically don't need a 10.5 hotside. You'll just need the IX turbo and install kit. You can purchase the install kit from either F.P or Russell @ (Mitsubishiparts). The install kit runs from $100-115 dollars.

Also, if you can't find any good deals on the IX turbo, you can save few pay checks and get a BBK full or the new BBK coming out soon, FP green, red, or even the BLACK, haha! All those turbos are "stock frame" turbos and can be replaced with your hotside. If you ever get a new turbo, i would recommend a tune after. Can't just bolt something up like that and go, unless you don't care and want something to go wrong with your car, lol!

Well i hope everything works out for you and goodluck on your find.

First, what are your current modifications? Doing a turbo upgrade requires several modifications to support it.

24psi is accomplishable on the stock 8 turbo, any boost after that it does not hold the power. Have you given any thought to running e-85 fuel which allows great boost to be ran?

A 20g is an option and a lot of people have had great success with stock frame turbos. Look into FP turbos (Forced Performance). Also, CBRD's BBK (Chad Block Racing Development).

Why do you want a 20g wheel kit? Focus on the other mods first, do the turbo, that's what I say

Because a stock 8 turbo with 10.5 hotside and a 20 g wheel and compressor is like a new turbo.

To answer the other questions. My mods are
hks dp and tbe
rmr intercooler piping kit
walbro 342
Perrin intake
greddy profec b
zt2 wideband

I can do the compressor wheel and housing myself no need for a shop as these turbos were not balanced after they were built.
