Who says he has an accurate way to measure boost (map sensor) to ensure he tunes his MBC properly as well?

What the OP should do is call whoever is going to tune his car from now on and get their opinion, and follow it. If they want MBC go with it, if they want a GM 3 port go with it.

Great advice. I also agree that a 3 port is the way to go, but I don't believe it is for everyone, although I recommend it to all of my friends.

Think about it like this, from factory they run pig rich, an intake at the same boost levels isn't going to lean him out above 11.8 without more boost. I have personally tested this on a few local evo's and my own evo with minor mods. The AFR were never over even 11.0 let alone anything to cause damage.

You're right, our cars do run pig rich from the factory, but on some cars a cone filter or intake system can screw up the MAF readings enough to make you hit fuel cut, which it seems is happening to him. If you are hitting fuel cut, you need a tune.

If your going to get a tune with the intake you should atleast op for the LICP as well. The LICP will give you a decent gain since the stock one reduces down to 1.75"

What does the coupler on your LICP reduce to?

1.8"

ETS vs Stock

The turbo outlet pipes fits inside of it and actually reaches the funnel which is larger then 1.8"

He would have to clarify what he meant by "getting spikes." He could just be looking at a boost gauge and seeing higher boost levels than before and was worried that it might do damage because of the extra 2 psi or "spikes" as he said.. That is how I took it. If he is hitting fuel cut off then yes, of course he needs a tune but I don't think he is hitting fuel cut off.

But I really think he should get a MBC, LICP and possibly cams before getting a tune.

Just cause some vendors don't carry it anymore doesn't mean it was discontinued. Should have went to the source: http://www.perrinperformance.com/

Why not just put a KN filter on the stock intake pipe?

Thats what I did, no problems at all...
