Evo IX OverHeating

Hey Guys,

I just recently got my car back from a reputable shop where I got a brand new transmission put in..during the process I also had them put in a new Mishimoto radiator. Picked up the car and drove it back with no problems, it sad in the garage for a couple weeks as I've been using my other car a lot more.

So last week I chose to cruise around, it was a really hot day so I turned the A/C on...a couple minutes later as I'm idling at a red light I notice the temp gauge spike pretty fast and had no signs of stopping...so I turned the car off right away...turned it back on and it was at normal temp again. I noticed that whenever I'm idling and have the A/C on, the temp gauge spikes...if I were to let it keep spiking it would hit the top within 20 seconds, as soon as I turn the A/C off it goes back down just as fast to normal temp.

Mostly happens at idle with the A/C on...but does happen sometimes at idle without the A/C

Here are my mods:
AEM EMS Standalone
GT35R
AMS F1-I Manifold
AMS Ignition System
880cc Injectors
AMS Fuel Rail
Walbro 255lph
Kelford 272 Exhaust/Intake Cam
AMS/TMS T1 Headstuds
AMS Full Turbo Back Exhaust
AMS FMIC
Upper IC Piping w/ Tiel BOV
AMS Small Battery
Exedy Twin HD Clutch

What do you guys think it is?...let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I check the antifreeze and it's topped off, don't see any air bubbles. I'd have to call up the shop that did it and ask if they changed the thermostat tomorrow than if that's a possible reason. It's weird to me because according to the gauge it'll overheat in seconds, but also go back to normal temp in seconds...I don't see how something that's so hot can cool down so fast

that is weird, hopefully they did not break your temp sensor, because honesty thats what it sounds like, if it gets hot really fast and cools down really quick, i am assuming the gauge/sensor is not working properly.

Either the thermostat is out of wack, the temp sensor is off for the gauge or there is a big air bubble choking the system. Try and rule each of them out.

Make sure that your AUX fan is running when you turn your AC on.

with ur new radiator and 35r kit, are u using a slim fan? if so, make sure its wired correctly and its pulling air into the bay instead of the other way around.

there is no way your water temp goes up and down 100degrees that quickly, that has to be an electrical issues. have you used a laser thermometer on your water pipes to confirm the temp is actually going up?

a few years ago my DSM would "overheat" like that when i reved the engine and then drop when it went back to idle. hooked up the logger and the temp sensor to the ECU was holding 210 but the gauge temp sensor was freaking out due to extra voltage.

looks electrical.

do not stress, this is not a crazy problem man.

Make sure the fan is switching on and it is pulling air thru the rad.
I would have the thermostat changed just incase it was gettin stuck.
Leave the car running with the rad cap off and make sure there are no bubbles coming up.

Worst comes to worst till u get it fixed you can take out your thermostat and it should be fine.

do you have logging software to check the signal going into your ECU?

the single wire sensor goes to the gauge and the 2 wire sensor goes to the ECU. i would try testing that out the gauge sensor or swap in a known good one.

he should, Mod list has AEM EMS on it
You should have the AEM controlling the fan to come on with switched 12v from the ignition
