t-belt issue

Just put on some cams on my 9 and started up and idle was fine while warming up. After about 5 min or so I pumped the gas a couple of times and all of sudden car made loud rattling noises. shut car off real quick and found the t-belt about my cam gears loose. I know the tension came loose but WTF? I spun the motor over by hand several times by hand and it idled fine. How the hell did all of a sudden just came loose. Getting ready to tear it back apart to see what happened. Just wanted to know if anybody ran into same problem. Thanks and I'll update in a bit.

Jason

When the pulley tensioner goes it becomes impossible to tighten, how many miles?

That sucks man! Mine did that and I bent all my intake valves. You would have to get a new t-belt tensioner and tensioner pulley.

Without the right tool it's very tough to tighten that bolt to the pulley. I bent two allen-keys doing that and almost messed up my fingers in the process. I suggest using some lock-tite when you go at it again.

Thanks for input guys. So the tensioner pulley came loose just as i was suspecting. I agree with you Ev0ikon. I had a pita of a time with tightening the tensioner pulley. Going to dealer and see if I can order that special tool they use. As far as my worst fears, I turned the crank to TDC and my cam gears were just off a tooth or two, pretty much the way they sit when you pull the t-belt off so I'm still hoping I didn't do anything to the valves. Let's try this thing again...
