Yea cause car dealerships build race trannies.

I remember back in 2000 the only people building race trannies for dsm's was tre. Shep was not offering his services to the community. I've talked to Jon at tre so these are his words not mine.

Shep has been racing dsm's for quite some time. In fact his black cherry 1g that runs 7's was Dave Buschur's car to begin with.

Are you ignorant.. or just stupid.

He worked out of his tiny shop for years - and many awesome trans came from it - including the first(and only) one in my DSM.

Bad example. Shep bought that car when it was no where near what it was when it ran 7's. It is a 100% different car than when Dave had it.

TRE is local to me, like 45mins so Jon gets my business hands down. He has been around forever too. Yes he's hard to get a hold of, but trans rebuild isn't something you do on a whim.

If you read Jon's website... and follow his instructions you can get a hold of him. Fact of the matter is 99% of your questions can be answered from his site. I called Jon on the phone and left a message. I received a phone call back the next morning and we talked for at least 30 minutes or more. I sent him about 3 emails... he answered every one of them within a day. I explained I needed my diff back to me yesterday and he turned my stuff around in one day people... ONE DAY.

Shep and TRE are both good shops...

- Shep has lots of experience from racing the 1st gen dsm transmissions and his personal Evo.
- TRE has just as much experience IF NOT MORE rebuilding dsm/evo transmissions, transfer cases, and diffs.
- I see the clear difference between the two of them is Jon's education. I think having an engineering background gives TRE an undisputed edge against a technician/racer.

If you talk to Jon on the phone... and can get into technical details...#1) He's not afraid to explain in depth what he does. Its not voodoo magic. #2) He certainly has the experience with these transmissions. #3) He understands the design, functions, and principles of the gear train.

I've gotten parts from Shep in a pinch, I've got my trans rebuild parts from Bushur, and I've got a diff from Jon @ TRE.

I think you can't go wrong with either Shep or TRE, but I personally will put my money with Jon @ TRE.

Lets do a test. Call Jon @ TRE and leave him a message with your name and number. See how long it takes to get a response.

I'm sure TRE and Shep both produce good end products.

However, customer service wise, Shep leads by a large margin. I've seen this first hand and with numerous friends.

Go buy a service manual and rebuild it yourself
It really isnt that hard.. Tools needed are minimal.
Pride is priceless.......Basic shop set-up can take the task on.

As many said, both Shep and TRE are a good choice. I went with Shep, his response was great, he shipped overseas and gave me lot of info, no regrets here. The 5-sp tranny runs well!

Most people are after a tranny that holds up to punishment better than just a stock rebuild. Things like oiling improvements, shot peening, micro polishing are not easily done by just anyone with a garage. Jon and Shep are both applying their decades of experience in doing all the extra things that make their transmissions better than stock.
