Woah ACT.....

Guys

So I have my car up for sale, and I have been experiencing some lockout issues going into 4th gear. I didnt want to pass that issue on to the next buyer, so I purchased an Exedy Twin to install in the car.

I pulled the trans yesterday afternoon, and pulled the clutch off.....and found this!

Keep in mind this is an HDG6 setup, with ~3k miles on it. Its had mostly DD treatment, with 1 trip to the drag strip (about 7 passes on street tires) and one trip to the dyno.

Both sides, a good portioned chunk is missing out of the pucks........yikes. This thing was supposed to be rated for 650ft/lbs. I have a feeling it would not have lasted much longer

I'm liking my ACT HDSS, I don't know why anyone would get a puck though (instead of a twin).

I have a south bend 6-puck clutch in my nissan, making over 700rwhp on a mustang dyno.......it has held probably 70+ drag strip passes making 1.5 60ft times.......its an epic clutch. Its been in the car for almost 3 years now.

And FWIW, the difference between a puck and a twin is considerable in cost (about a grand) and the pucks will hold considerably more tq than a disc will (for about the same price)

I have a 6 puck and have no issues with using it as a daily driver... I actually like the feel of the clutch. I had the exedy twin.. and it gripped fantastic until the 10,000 mile marker and... poof... it was gone... if you want a soft, lifeless engagement, go automatic....

That clutch should not wear that fast, just make sure on your next clutch that everything is engaging correctly.

what is the most torque people have put down without having a mb7-hdss set-up before they experienced clutch slip?

I am already putting down more than the 485 wtq, so for this current build i went with the HDG6 plate.....

although it doesnt drive as bad as most "traditional" puck clutches, it is on the touchy side IMO.

quite honestly, my hdss disc allowed better shifts than the hdg6..... i would have thought it would have been the other way around...

Clutch engagement point was pretty far out in regards to clutch pedal travel.....

I took advice from a friend with a 600+whp DSM and got the South Bend DXD 6-puck for my Evo IX. This clutch has impressed the hell out of me. Not as smooth as the OEM, but lot's smoother than the CompClutches Stage 2 it replaced. Holds my power (335awhp/300tq) easily. And at HPDE's it has no lockout (the CC had BAD lockout) and takes road racing abuse without a hitch.

South Bend builds a lot of clutches for modified diesel trucks, so they know how to make a high load capacity clutch.
