Tool/tip for you guys taking out your own trannies.

Well this will be my third time removing a tranny on an evo 9. This time its not mine, its my buddys. but anyway.
as all of you who have ever taken your trannys out, at the point when you need to remove the Intermediate Shaft that runs through the Transmission to the transfer case sometimes tends to either Slide right out, or be a total pain in the a*s.

Evomoto's clutch and flywheel write up says to use a dent puller and weld a 8mmx1.25 bolt to the end and go at it, well this worked well for when i did my transfer case but not last night we snapped the dent puller so we took a ride to home depot and i thought of using a 8mmx1.25 hex bolt put through a chain and we could pull it, (look at the pics)

but yeah. it worked AWESOME. and i thought i'd share with you guys this little jiggy rigged tool of mine.

hope it helps some of u in the future who take on the task of dropping your transmission in your own garage

I just went to autozone and rented a slide hammer. It's free with a deposit. Then went to ACE hardware and made an adapter between the spline bolt and the hammer adapter. Worked like a pro. Looks like yours works just as well. Nice ingenuity.

usually the slide hammer works for my car, but this was my buddys car it has 67,000+ miles on it, friggen thing was IN there. i ended up breaking the welded bolt at the end of my slide hammer and my luck had no more welding wire, so we used this and it worked great.

I'd say roughly 5-6 hours. But than again this was my 3rd time doing a clutch on an evo. My first time I'd say it took me 7-8 hours. Working at a slow steady and very very organized pace.

Just curious, did you drop the crossmember down or remove it to get the transmission out easier or just wiggle and jiggle? lol

yes, you have to remove the cross member, but its only 3 bolts..? its not hard at all, the front roll stopper should be attached to the cross member
