The purpose was to provide a water cooled capability and it has more clearance. Not sure about the weight. Spring rates are the same, you just decide which one. If you don't specify, then you usually get the 1 Bar (14.7ish) psi spring.

We don't have to use the water cooled features do we? Personally I don't like that. But if they work the same and weigh less that's a bonus

You don't have to use the water ports. Main reason people use the new MVR Tial is due to it being significantly shorter. Helps with clearance issues on some kits, especially some of the T3 kits that put the wastegate really close to the AC and require you to bend lines, etc.

You don't need to use the water ports on the wastegates. The mini version saves a ton of room which allows for much better fitment.
