Adrian,

I thought it might have been posted here, but in testing FP saw anywhere from 2-6 lb/min mass increase depending on inlet temp.

Wheels are the same, only the housings/back plates are different sizes...

oh right. dam. cast up some ally covers we can convert our 8 turbo's to 9's
i was going to sell the 8 turbo i just removed but may aswel keep as a spare if my ix dies i can just fit the ix cover get it rebalanced and jobs a good un. feasible?

From what I have heard the bearing section in the 9 turbo is much more robust alowing it to survive at the higher loads tat the larger wheels produce. I would say just get a ix turbo if you are interested in that rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

yes i have a ix but if the ix is nothing more than a 8 with a cover surely the cover will fit making a 8 a 9? your prob right tho too much hassle

thats not true. the bearing section is identical.
reliability between 8 or 9 turbo is the same.

Thats is interesting. If that is the case I wonder why FP didnt make a larger cover for the 8 and convert 8 turbos to the newer HTA turbos? Is the major diameter of the HTA compressor wheels too larger to machine the backplate on an 8 turbo?
