Bad tranny or Tob?? :|

Ok this is not my video but its the same damn thing that my car is doing!

Anyone experience this? I know my evo 9 first gear makes a whining noise, but the noise in the video is the same and getting louder!

I push the cluch in and it goes away.

When you push the pedal in the clutch is disengaged and spinning on the TOB. With your foot off the pedal the clutch is engaged and spinning with the flywheel and the trans input shaft. I would expect a bad TOB to make noise with the pedal in because that is when it's ridding on the TOB. If it makes noise with the pedal out it's either a piece of clutch/pressure plate broken and making noise as it spins around or the tranny input shaft bearing/other tranny internals. I realize maybe a bad TOB might make noise when not engaged but this makes a little sense.

TOB for sure. friend of mine installed a spec stage 3 pucked on his wrx. and when we were putting the tranny on we bent the TOB with the input shaft (from wrestling the sh*t out of it) long story short he didn't rele give a crap so we ended up using that TOB instead of replacing it. when we started the car it made the EXACT same noise. and the second u push the clutch in the noise went away.

he put miles on it and it slowly grinded itself away im assuming. but after 2-300 miles the noise was completely gone.

i will say is either TOB, one of the springs on the disc or like you say a imput shaft bearings is ****ed, i have the same problem on my regular lancer, the problem was the input shaft bearign, it was like a $75 fix after fluids and bearings.

either way you have to remove the tranny, after you do it check your imput shaft.
