Smile goal: 120mph traps. turbo?

that sounds simple right? 380-420whp and a decent driver will hit that with e85 + bolt-ons only all day long.

the problem is, i'm in Edmonton, Canada where we have a notoriously slow drag strip. part of the problem is that we're 2,200ft above sealevel (i can't imagine how bad it must be for you Colorado etc. guys).

to give you an idea, stock STIs, 4th gen F bodies etc. all have a hard time breaking into the 13s and trapping sub 100mph. a guy i know with an '09 GT-R with Cobb and midpipes did a 12.1@119mph. stock R35 GT-Rs do that easily all day in the states. the C6 Z06s i've seen do about 116-117mph (down almost 10mph from the fastest i've seen in the US). i swear our drag strip is uphill, that or Canadians just can't drive

i already have Cosworth M2s, intake, o2/TBE, LICP/UICP + tune and it made 316whp on a road dyno that reads like a MD/Dyno Dynamic (stock STIs do about 210whp). with a slipping/lock out clutch i mustered a best of 13.2 @ 109.

i want to stay with the stock longblock so please, no "throw on a HTA35R/6262 and call it a day!" i'm looking for driveability on E10 94 octane + meth. i've been looking at the HKS GT7460 but i'm afraid it won't be enough to give me another 10mph in the quarter even with full supporting mods. i've also considered the FP Red but from what i've read so far the new CBRD BBK-B makes about the same hp yet spools a little quicker. is this my ticket to the magical 120mph mark? or should i just go with a T3 flange turbo setup?

i do quite a bit of road racing so transient response is a big deal to me. any suggestions are welcome.

thanks guys

I would say:

HTA FP Green
FP Red
FP Black.

The higher your probability goes up from top to bottom. I would also recommend an upgraded front mount.

120mph in the 1/4 really isn't that hard to do...I did it on pump gas with a BBK Full this weekend...a couple times...I vote BBK-B...make hitting 120 even easier...

I would say an evo 8 4th gear also. Would save the shift and lower your rpms reving it out. Not turbo talk but useful.

guys in the states do 120+ on stock turbo on E85 or meth. 120mph in my case is probably closer to 125-127mph at sealevel.

with the FPBlack guys are seeing about ~25psi at about what, 4,600rpm? thats definitely going to be laggy for my taste since in my case i won't be seeing it till ~5,000rpm due to the thinner air. on a warm day (80degrees), i don't see 25psi in 3rd till almost 4,000rpm on the stock turbo. you guys are hitting that at ~3,400rpm? i'm tuned by Mellon so i don't think there are any problems there.

and yes, i already bought a set of RC 1000s and currently looking for a thicker FMIC core to compliment my setup.

thanks for the suggestions guys

when i get my tranny rebuilt by Shep, i'm definitely goin with the Evo 8 3rd and 4th. i'm crossing the 1/4 in 4th well into 7xxxrpm, at which point the turbo is flat on its face

3076r, 32psi, 490whp. You may need a little more boost to get you there but with E gas that shouldn't be an issue. I was on the stock block trapping 122mph with that turbo.

the HTA Green is what, a 54lb/min turbo? i've read that the HKS 7460 makes about the same power yet kills it by a long shot in terms of spool and response. or am i confusing it with the regular ol' Green (47lb)?

The red or green with port work and a solid tune will take you to the 120 range with ease....assuming you can drive.

i've looked into the HTA 3076R. BR compared it with the HTA35R and the 35R walked away from it once it hit, giving up very little in spool? but then again my stock block will not last long at 35R power levels anyway. the key is that i want to stay stock block

which leads me to ask, should i stay stock frame? cause even stock frame tubular manifolds could give 20+whp gains. but if i were to do that why not just go with the T3 setup right from the get go?
