My Evo V RS destroys clutch while doing NLTS
My Evo V RS destroys clutch while doing NLTS
Hi Guys,
I wanted to share this bad experience I had a few months ago, the Evo has been up and running with a GSR 5 speed after this happened. Anyway, this happened with a 4 puck sprung clutch that came with the car when I bought it a year ago, the clutch was localy built with a Valeo core, not intended for much power above stock (now I know
). I found that out the hard way, car was around 320 whp at the time. The thing is the clutch had survided over 60 launches in the previous 6 months! But I guess NLTS at around 7K is a whole othet ball game than launching.
The center section of the clutch totaly broke free from the 4 puck section, and naturaly that part got jammed between flywheel and pressure plate and broke into many pieces, taking out good chuncks of the bell housing, the starter, and one of the bolting points of the block.
Enjoy the video, and make sure you have a quality clutch!

Its a NLTS like tephra mods but called "Ceddy mods" developed by Ceddy for the Evo V/VI, it also works with fuel cut set by rpm and has launch control with target AFR and timing as well, had to wire a clutch switch as well. You can find all info of this mods in geekmapped forum.
I have to say the clutch was a bit abused when I was setting the proper rpm drop for NLTS as in the first atempts the rpm drop I set was too close to the actual shifting rpm and I got very harsh engagement, making the clutch slip, then I set the NLTS rpm to 6300 (shifting around 7K and 7.5K) and then worked better and smoother.
