How can you check if the piston rings sealed right?

I think its called a leakdown test right? Where you can check how well the piston rings sealed and if you have any combustion blow-by the piston ring and get in the oil. This will cause loss of power and Burning oil.
so you people that are burning oil, you may want to check it out.
I live in South florida and alot of the car maintanence shops don't have the equipment.
Also how much would it cost and how long will it take?
thanks

The equipment is common, everyone sells leakdown testers.
Try Snap-on, Mac, probably Sears and maybe even Pep Boys.
It's simple to do if you have a compressor.

All you are doing is putting the cylinder at top dead center and then applying air to the cylinder to se how much air is leaking out past rings or valves. Probably the har part is getting TDC dead on, otherwise the enigine will spin around on you and you have to do it again.

There is a problem with doing this test. In a 4G63 to do it accurately you usually have to pull the cams to get all the valves to close completely. If you don't you will have to rotate the engine one cylinder at a time and check it, still they sometimes remain held open.

The other thing when doing this it will only tell you if you have leakdown in a cylinder, you will have to listen to find out where it is leaking. Usually listening into the dipstick tube will tell you if it is going past the rings, listening in the throttle body will tell you if it is an intake valve and the exhaust will tell you if it is an exhaust valve.

The test if you leave the cams in will take no more than an hour.

Hope this helps,

Just take the oil cap off and smell the oil. If it smells like gas then you have a problem.
