Who's running the new HKS Cams 274 278
Curious who is running the new HKS cams for the Evo VIII, the 274/278 grind. Would be interested in impressions-. I have just installed them moving from HKS 272/264 split duration set up—that had nice down low grunt with power on at 3000rpm, running +2, -1 cam sprockets. Car had a nice idle, somewhat choppy as one would expect, but not quite as noticeable as those running 272/272 HKS which have a noticeable lope. Dropped the new HKS’s in with the same settings, car idles smooth as stock—doubled checked all settings multiple times to be sure I didn’t miss anything and everything adds up. I would have expected with 14* more exhaust duration and an 11mm lift that I would have picked up some more lope—but the car idles better then stock—tone of exhaust is smooth as glass—vacuum picked up a little from about 15ibs to 17 lbs—power comes on I would say almost 1000 rpms later with a kick at 4000 rpms—which I expected.
Thinking that this new cam design is far different then adding a few degrees to the 272 intake and taking away the same from the 280 option of the earlier generation cams.
So, anyone else have these installed? What are your impressions—are you getting what you were after? For those with earlier HKS 272i and 264e cams—can you post your cam card specs for opening and closing timing-- as the cams are essentially the same 110* lca’s as the earlier generation and this has peaked my interest—as to what has changed and why.
Really interested in keeping this a discussion on cam design and not one of peak HP.
So who has them and what do you have to say about HKS’s new design?

HKS is the worst comany EVER! I made 150hp upgrading from a 272/280 combo to custom GSC Cams. std S2s will make 30-40whp more than the HKS Cams. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...stom-cams.html
Also a 37r is old news and crap. Don't waste your money. Get a HTA3586 or if you really want some power the HTA3794.

It is not professional to bash HKS because the HKS cams you had didn't make as much as the the GSC Custom cams. How can you compare offshelf cams to custom grinds?
The HKS 264 272 and 280 all share the same lift 10.8mm and 10.2 mm with just different duration.
This thread is about the new HKS cams 274/278 with more duration and lift, do you know anything about them? have you done any comparison with other cams???

HKS isn't bad...they are just milder then some of the other offerings available on the market.
That being said I have the new 272/278 combo for sale along with HKS valve springs and Manley retainers.
I'm such a vulture. LOL

HKS has to be one of the few cam companies that has been around since 03 who's cams haven't failed, I'd hardly call them the worst company ever just because their cams are mild in comparison to others. I personally can think of a few companies who fit that bill a bit better than HKS. Bump for more info and updates about this new set up.

Thats still subjective. Not worth the money if you are after stock frame turbo records perhaps. For 1800$ I got a BB turbo, valve springs and cams. (274,278). Not a bad deal, they make power and idle like stock with 5* of ignition timing.
