Zero Compression On Cylinder 1
Zero Compression On Cylinder 1
Hey Guys Got a tune yesterday conservative only 20 psi and that Night, service engine light(cylinder 1 misfire) came on and car sound like a subaru. Obviously running on 3 cylinders..
1st thing I did was check the plugs and replace them before going onto anything else figured It was time for a compression test. Turns out cylinder one compression is zero!!
Not really sure where to go next with this...
bent valve or cracked ring?!

Also, to have the low of compression usually indicates something major happened. Best case scenario, is your head gasket on cylinder #1 is toast.

When you did the compression test - did you add oil to cylinder #1 and re-do the test? If the compression goes up its a bad ring, if it doesn't its a bad valve.

Ok well thanks for the help guys. Im taking to my buddy's garage and he's gonna pull the head for me. I will keep this updated.
You can also do a leakdown test and verify if it is the head or block. It is easier to pull the block complete than tear the head off them find the block is toast and have to pull that too. Sounds like a burnt valve to me. Some carbon prob got caught under the valve then got super hot from combustion gasses hitting it and burned the valve like a torch. I have seen it happen on cars that were poorly setup for a while doing this when they are finally running right. I had one that I got that was F'ed when the car was purchased and it ran great after I fixed the car up but it smoked the head in a few weeks.
