turbo upgrade advice

Ok guys, i recently bought a 03 MR, it has the stock turbo. Upgrades are 3" dp, exhaust, engine IC piping, upgraded IC, profec B.

Ok, on to the juicy part, i want to upgrade my turbo. Jus not enuf top end for me. But i love how it spools so fast. I have done research but researching gets boring and advice is important.

I am looking for 400 whp, i want to kno if i should just spend the money and get a Red, or go with a Green????? Or go with a 20g TDO6 n replace the mani??? The TDO6 is so cheap in price. But after purchasing a decent mani will i be bck up to the red/ green prices. And i will be buying a used fp turbo, or a brand new tdo6.

Basically im jus wondering what all has to be changed if i decide to go with the tdo6 and will i be happy? I always go the cheap route and later on get mad with myself because i shoulda jus spent the extra money and get the better product. Ok enuff rambling, lmk guys.

I also alredy have 1000cc inj and 255 fuel pump uninstalled, i kno i will need a tune when upgrading also. Thx for ur time guys.

To upgrade Or not to upgrade.

Hey how's it going, good job on the purchase, I have 06 gsr, and I'm running a stock turbo, with arp head studs, some 272's upper and lower pipes, and AMS Tbe, and with this past tune the car moves like leopard, from my tuner he and which I've read, the green spools so much faster, but the black gives u nothing but power, And there is sending you turbo out to machined at cbrd to Lite.

For what you are looking for I would install some cams and go with a HKS 7460R turbo. It will give you around 400whp on pump gas and the same fast spoolup of a stock turbo with more top end.

Yes, it's a direct bolt on and it will cost you about $1,800.00. Plus it's a ball bearing turbo which is great for reliability. You can search for it and will find some info and there were a couple of them being sold recently on the marketplace.

I would certainly do cams and the rest of the bolt-ons first. I will have a slightly used set of HKS 272s up for sale soon. I would personally go with a BBK Full turbo from CBRD. I did a ton of research and drove somebody's car with the Full. With the right supporting mods it will do 400whp on a Mustang dyno and spools better than stock IMO on a VIII. I am actually installing mine right now. Just took a break to look up Autozone's phone number. ha!

the HKS is the fastest spooling but does not have the potiental to move up like the RED does. The Red spools a little slower but not to much also get a new FP not a used one your risking double the money and you cant beat fp's warrenty. I made 402 whp on a Low reading Dyno Dynamics on 26psi on my Red and I have more in it. If you dont have full bolt ons I would not waste your time in Upgradeing the turbo.

if u only got 2000 to spend including tuning i would spend your money on cams, intake mani and tb and a retune that right there will kinda max ur setup on stock turbo, and since u have the injectors n pump when u install them go e85 route if its available....those mods and an e85 tune should put u in the 400 range depending on dyno, then when u got funds for a turbo, do 02 housing turbo and ported exhaust mani at the same time, then ull be close to 500 on e85...thats what i would do in your situation...now ive got an 03, did u swap your 5 speed to a 6 speed??

$2k will not cover the cost of a turbo + supporting modifications, such as injectors + a tune + labor.

For the power you are interested in you should research the HKS 7460, CBRD BBK, and FP HTA Green turbos. However, those run almost near $2k for just the turbo.

You need a bigger budget of almost double that to do a turbo upgrade with the mods you already have. I suggest in the mean time while you are saving to research and read as much as you can.

Also, post some photos on here of your car and its engine bay and we can examine it to pick out the modifications and such.
