True, so does my turbo

I spoke with Scott at Fp today, and he said that he didn't know much about it. As he said, "You caught me with my pants down" lol, cause this turbo is a pet project between Robert and a couple other guys and he doesn't know much about it or that it was on the site even. Apparently Robert has been testing this turbo on his dd and loves it. Scott said that is should flow about 50lbs/min and spool up like stock. He said that the website will be updated with the specs soon, and that there are a bunch of units in stock. He said that he didn't think that there were any of the 84mm covers made up for them right now either, so the stock cover is all that they have for the moment. Sounds like a great turbo for a budget price, pretty uncommon for fp.

I would imagine this would make almost identical numbers to a BBK. I will not sleep until I see results from this turbo.

It was supposed to be a wheel similar dimensionally to a 20G compressor but with five pairs of blades rather than six .

Since I am not a turbo engineer, can you convert that size compressor wheel into a size comparison to the 68mm, new 71mm, and 73 HTA? Thanks

Well the Mitsy 16/18/20G compressors were all 68mm major diameter and differed in trim size or the aspect ratio of the wheels inducer area compared to the exducers (major diameters) area . Search compressor wheel trim formula .

Manufacturers also often change the wheels tip height which is the vertical height of the blades and the corresponding nozzle width in the compressor housing .
For example Garrett have a couple of GT2860R turbo versions with only really this tip height increased , the trim sizes are the same . The disco potato GT2860RS is the larger tip height version .

Gotta run more later .

Also searched for pics of the original Greens compressor wheel preferably with the compressor housing off so you can see the whole wheel not just its inducer through the compressor housings snout .

Now from memory it was mentioned that FP's early Greens compressor was similar dimensionally to a 20G wheel and I take that to read that its major diameter was similar and its inducer diameter was whatever Robert got to work properly .

You'd think that having one less pair of blades would mean that for a given rotating group speed the compressor would pump slightly less air initially and help avoid compressor surge a lowish engine speeds .

Many seem to think that 20G compressors are not ideal things in high flowed Evo turbos and I think that the bored out TD05 based turbine housing is a lot of the reason for this particularly with turbines aimed at being responsive .
I think I did a quick search around Mitsy OE turbos and I don't think they ever used a 20G with a TD05 turbine , experience mush have shown that the TD06SL2 turbine also wasn't a perfect match with a 20G compressor at least in a plain snout compressor housing .

Robert has obviously done a lot of experimentation with compressor housings and wheels so the 71HTA must be a reasonable match with I assume the std turbine or whatever one it uses .

For the price you can't go wrong to upgrade from a stock IX, if my car was stock this would be one of the first mods.

Curt, are you running the HTA-71mm or the FP HTA Green (HTA-73mm)?

Yes, but the thread is about the HTA71, so I thought it would be best for him to clarify which turbo he is talking about. If he does have the HTA71 on his car, it would be great to get some details from him.

I just spoke with Robert at fp and he said it's 51lbs/min and it spools up pretty close to stock. He said he's making this turbo to help out the low budget Evo owners and offer a budget quality turbo. Thanks fp.
