Mount wideband O2 bung in downpipe?

Where is the optimal place to mount a wideband O2 sensor? Is the downpipe a more accurate place than further downstream, or is it too hot there for the sensor? Anyone know what the EGT readings typically are in the downpipe so I can compare those temps against the operating temps of a wideband sensor?

Thanks.

I mounted mine (Tech Edge) about 8" from the 02 housing flange on the downpipe. The 6066 sensor I'm using works best with a MAX of 750-850 degrees C. I would think other sensors would be similar. There is some good wb info on www.wbo2.com, including placement tips and operation range. Max manifold temps shouldn't exceed 1600F (900C) and generally the temp in the dp is 2-300 degrees less than what you would see in the manifold.
