Transfercase/Lsd Questions! help

Car Info

2003 Evo 8 35k
Doesn't have Acd/or front lsd...

due to budget reasons i'm asking these questions... I know the Wavetech lsd are stonger etc... but I don't launch my car... I do autox, and trackdays... reason why i'm upgrading to a lsd... the goals power goals are 400whp/400tq....

Recently I blew my motor... so while i'm pulling everything out... was thinking about upgrading.... my transmission due to a 5th gear grind...

The Questions I had are:
1. Is it necessary to upgrade/rebuild a perfectly working Transfercase?
2. If I didn't ugprade the TC and added a OEM front lsd... are there any other modifcations that I need to do... I know TRE raises the fill plug.. since the Lsd holds more fluid...
3. reason i'm asking about the fill plug being raised is b/c, I'm seeing people run wavetech lsds without doing any other modications...

Question Goes to Shep or Tre really but...
If I did get shep or TRE to rebuild the TC... is a rebuild using stronger parts? or a basically oem rebuild?

1. No.
2. This is a question for your tranny builder.

Rebuilt does not necessarily mean stronger, it all depends on what, if any, optional steps you're willing to pay for. You can do anything from a stock rebuild to a full-on track car build.

well what i meant as far as rebuilding... was basically what shep and tre have on there sites...

TRE: Tune up Service
Complete disassembly & hot tank
Magnaflux inspection of the ring & pinion gears
Magnaflux inspection of the front diff housing
Magnaflux inspection of the front diff gearset
Gear detail work to the ring & pinion
CNC machine work for larger M10 bolts
M10 bolt kit
New o-ring & seal kit
Shim kit
Neodymium magnet

Shep: Rebuild Service...
•8mm to 10mm bolt upgrade
•New seals and o-rings
•Proper shim adjustment
•Neodymium magnet
•ACD bearing (when applicable)

only thing i'm not understanding is

shim kit? and sheps Proper shim adjustment....

does the oem transfcase have any issues.. that either of these rebuilds would fix.. or prevent?

i'm not looking to go stage 1,2,3 with any of them...

I've owned 2 evos none have had acd issues... i just keep seeing some people posting up about the death whine...

i know these questions should be asked to TRE and Shep... but coming from there point of view.. it should all be upgraded... this is how they make money... not saying they are ripping me off... i'm just not sure there answers would be unbiased...
