How to Read a Dyno Graph?

Background:
I'm spending some time deciding on which engine mangement upgrade (Vishnu, Works) to do in the Spring, along with some exhaust enhancement, either turbo or cat-back. Would like another 40-50hp broadly across rpm band without losing daily driving ability (it's my all-season daily driver).

Question:
Beyond pure hp and torque, what to make of the smaller modulations across the rpm band? I've read arguments that they represent pulling timing from knock, but don't know if that's true. I would like a smooth pulling power curve, and the ability to decelerate smoothly as well.

What y'all have to say?

IMHO - you are looking for broad, flat trq curves and no dips in the chart with a rich a/f

Here is a sheet I am very proud of - its a safc vs. my dyno flash - a nice low end grunt on a very conservative tune

here is a stock cam car with the Buschur Stage 2 - again - super low end power which I pride my tunes on and a real safe tune you can run on pump gas every day with no sweat
