So On my '03 Evo the spark plug coil above cylinder 4 split an caused the plug to lose spark. Well with that happening the compression shot the plug out of the head taking all the threads with it too. Now I'm just curious how many of you this has happened to an what you did to fix it an what you found to not work an what has had success.
First of all the motor's compression can not push the spark plug out of the Head. The spark plug was over torqued and the threads in the cast aluminum head were ruined, thus allowing the spark plug to be dislodged from the head along with the threads. Common mistake on cast aluminum heads when installing spark plugs.
It can be repaired and will actually be stronger than the original cast aluminum threads.
Your spark plug loosing spark because of the bad coil had nothing to do with the spark plug issue.
Also, the other cylinders spark plug threads are, most likely, also in bad shape so I strongly suggest that you have all four spark plug threads repaired at the same time.

Ok well how it happened isn't the issue I'm tryin to figure out but thanks for the input on that.
I'm just curious as to if people are boring re hole out larger to put in a heli coil or what's being done and being done successfully...

This is a VERYY Common thing that happens on some of the Ford motors, from a mustang to a expedition, I forget what motors exactly but I know some of the heads also were made with more plug threads in the head or something like that. Snapon and others makes a repair kit Just for this issue. Do some research and see what everyone else does....either way a good excuse to upgrade to a ported and worked head

I've had one of their inserts in for over 45k miles. Zero issues. I've pulled the head twice for performance reasons and the spark plug insert has looked perfect. Based on nothing beyond looks I choose it over a helicoil because it looked like a more durable design.
