I just read your boards and see all the lost people...they need to FTFM sometimes
. I do know you have a ton of maps ready for download for most if not all applications in the Evo to date.

I did the mail-flash with Al. In my opinion it was the best money I have ever spent on any modification. I have two modded cars and between the two of them I have spent well over 15k on modifications.
As for the other guys out there, I have never heard anything negative about their products either, other than the cost maybe. But I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. These are ALL reputable vendors to my knowledge.
Good Luck! Have fun!

I have the xede and I just loaded the map and never had to mess with it again. I will say the pro's are you can remove it if you need to to trouble shoot the car or to sell it down the road, you can not do that with a flash. Also I like that I can load a different map for different gas. Problem I see with it is the install is not the best, I screwed up pulling the wrong wire out and had to have the car towed, if you do not know what you are doing don't do this or have Shiv on the phone before you do it. The pill was easy to remove and took about 10 min to remove. Also I like that it has a light to tell you it's working, green if it's okay red flashing if it's not. Also the support is good, Some of the evo's are getting a P0300 random misfire code that throws the CEL, This even happens with some stock evo's so I feel it's not a Vishnu only problem but Shiv does have a update to his computer as well as he said gapping the plugs does help. I feel like with the vishnu stuff there are always updates and new stuff to add. I guess you can say I am happy with the xede for the 1 month that I have had it installed. One thing to add, I did change maps 3 times. It is so easy, you download the file to the computer then you double click it and it loads it, then it asks if you want to burn it to rom, say yes it burns it and you are done. Takes longer to boot up then to change maps.

I had the Works P1 and now run the P2 along with the the Works throttle body. RMR DP & 3" HF cat & exhaust to the Exhale. I have put 6K miles on these mods with out a single problem. My Evo runs consistant and always ready to be pushed. Good Luck on your decision.
I have an xede and "standard" turbo back installed on my car. I purchased the stage one kit, but haven't put in the cam gears yet; I'll probably just wait until I install a new set of cams and set them to the appropriate timing for the cams I choose.
My car has about 5k with the mods on it and everything has been bulletproof. With the xede and and software loading new maps is easy; I keep two maps loaded and can change them by flipping a toggle switch. Really useful when I venture out of 93 octane country, or when I want to load a 100 octane map.
Support has been first rate; I just give them a call with any questions have. I've called them twice and both time had knowledgeable answers to my questions right away; no need to call back.

has anyone had any experience with the RMR flash that they have available ??
Im also considering this option since all of the tuners are far away and i really wouldnt prefer to have the ecu shipped to them..

Goku - I had the RMR flash until I did some more mods and moved to VA (93 octane) and got the DynoFlash (I was running very lean with my intake pipe). It was VERY good - I am surprised more people don't have it. They use one of the premier ECU tuners around, Tadashi @ Technosquare (the guy who got the 350Z certified for the US). Call Eric and told him I sent you! Very worthwhile (no knock on the other vendors, but for local guys, the RMR is great!).

I'd feel uncomfortable with any retune, whether it be a reflash, piggyback or stand-alone, where I didn't have some confirmation that the air-fuel ratio was safe and that the timing wasn't too advanced to avoid knock on MY CAR. The idea of a mail-order retune is a scary concept to me if you don't have a means of ensuring that the car is running right with the new tune (i.e., scan tool and wideband). Anyone who has a lot of experience tuning cars knows that every car is a little different and what may result in a perfect AFR and timing on one car may give an overly rich or (yikes) lean AFR and knock on an identically modded car.
So, bottom line, since you asked about SAFETY, the safest course is to either check your retune yourself with a wideband and scantool after its installed OR get the car tuned in person by someone who has these tools during the tuning process. Don't trust that your car is going to be identical to someone else's shop car.
The only way that a mail order tune (mail-order flash, xede, etc.) can be safe for sure on your car is if the tuner builds in a wide margin of fuel and timing safety to account for differences between cars. And if that's what you're getting, you're not getting an optimal tune.
