Evo 9 turbo fake or not

Hi,

Last year, I've bought an 9 tubbie which seemed to be real as it was printed over 16G6C-10.5
In fact, it's this one :

It was installed last year and now everything is erased like it was only printed, not engraved...
What do you think it can be ? A rebuild ? A fake ?

Thanks a lot for your help

If it was not engraved im sorry to say but its more than a 95% chance it was a fake knockoff.

This is the only other picture I got from the day it was installed...
I'm really disappointed if it's a fake, I bought for a real one. What are the risk for the car if it's a fake ?

If it happened to blow your intercooler would catch most everything I think.

But you could have something in the center cartridge break loose and maybe scratch something in the motor. Although I have never heard of anything like this happening it could happen :P

looks real to me you can see the mitsu symble on the hotside and iv never seen a fake evo 9 turbo before. Check again to see if the engraving is just hard to see. Also did you do the install or a shop ther is a few shady shops not saying thats what happend but you never know.

Looks like you can almost see the mitsu symbol in the turbine housing picture. Doesn't mean the internals or compressor are OEM. Probably a rebuild with a different compressor housing--there are subtle differences from pics found on the 'net.

Mitsu could have run out of original compressor castings and used a new casting for brand new units/not likely. A side by side picture of and EVO 9 wheel would be good....but there are some people on here that can just tell right away.

You should be fine...just check play and performance after a couple of oil changes.

My compressor cover is larger than the hotside where as this turbo appears to have a similar compressor size to the hotside. The pics could be misleading though.

No both 8 and 9's have a big 16g. The compressor cover on a 9 is larger than the 8.
