Vibration when cold!
I was wondering if anyone experiences a vibration when you first start the car and drive when cold. After the car warms up seems to run perfect. Just curious if this is normal. Thanks
Vibration
I'm not sure if it's vibration, but my car has the deepest growl when I start it cold. It rattles my house. I wish it sounded like that all the time, but it goes away after 5 minutes when the temp needle rises. It's just the Evo's way of telling everybody else to rise and shine!
evilmania, yes, have the same problem as you.engine fully warmed
up,start driving, feels like tires are way out of balance, mostly when driving down highway,1st 3-5 miles, then it goes away.here is the problem,at least with my car.The tires develop flat spots, very much so if i dont drive car all weekend, then drive monday to work.Took all 4 tires off and balanced using"road force" tire balancer, which simulates the road force on tires when spin balancing. If you have them done cold, which I did,you will find that the road force limit has exceeded, big time,30-50 lbs, which phase matching tires to rims will not help. Then try doing this same balance procedure after warming tires up(ie;driving down highway 5-10 miles)and you will find that all tires are within spec's.I have not contacted yokohama yet concerning this condition, but i will in spring(have blizzak lm-22's on for winter),see if they are willing to warranty these tires, seeing they only have 1300 or so miles on them.BTW,I work as a auto tech,so I have access to this equiptment. If some local shop/dealer has a road force tire balancer, bring it to them and let vehicle sit overnight in cold weather and have them "road force" balance your tires and you will see that your tires are the cause.as for getting yokohama to warranty them, good luck.

He's right though, I get flat spots in my tires overnight. No big deal, it happens. Car is also just very "*****y" when it's cold - nature of the beast.

yup. me too. i like the description of it being "*****y" when cold... perfect description. It reminds me of when someone wakes my *** up from a good sleep... takes me a few minutes to get my **** together also... not gonna hold that against my evo.
nah, mine does it too....its the difference of the tires being warm or cold...expanding or not expanding.....its not that big of a deal to me.....after driving a few minutes and letting the tires warm up it will be fine. As far as turboDan, looks to me like he was using spacebar. So to all those guys that say to let your car warm up for a few minutes before driving- this will have no effect on the tires until you actually drive.
