Front wheel bearing?

I heard oem isn't great. Has anyone tried non-oem brands?

What Mitsubishi sells you is the entire hub not the bearing.

Oem is best, it is a one piece unit. More than likely it's made by ntk, which is one of the most known bearing companies in Japan. I have rarely seen an Evo bearing go bad unless either you have hit major potholes or if you have much bigger and heavier wheels.

And who told you the OE ones were bad? I mean you do see bad bearings within the evo community but I think this can be attributed more to the fact that a lot of people track their evos/drive their evos in the snow because of awd where the roads are likely to be plagued with pot holes. The OEM bearing is probably the best your going to find out there so I would personally not look any further.

You could use a slidehammer but it isnt needed.

Basically remove the wheel, calipers, rotors, then unbolt the axle (32mm socket), then its just 4 bolts and itll pop off. Might have to bang on it with a dead blow to unseat it. If anyone is interested I have a perfect condition, low mile OEM wheel bearing Ill sell for about half the price of a new one.

Also, be careful where you get it from. Alot of places cross reference Evos with Lancer and they arent even close. And im pretty sure most bearing are made by Tillman, bot OEM and GOOD replacements. I know I paid $200 for one by Tillman from O'Reilly. If anyone is interested though, shoot me a PM.

I pulld the whole hub off to get it out of a way to press the old one out. I broke my wheel speed sensor so i have a new one comeing . That was a expensive mistake. Anywho im going to press the new one in tonight and get it back together. I dont see how you could use a slide hammer for the job. Because the part with the lug studs will not just slide out. Btw there is no play in the bearing but it was makeing noise when i would turn right.

you will need a breaker bar. also a torque wrench for the axle nut bolt. a tall box to lay the caliper on or disconnect the brake line.

DSM, IDK WTF you are talking about with pressing it in. ITS A HUB! It BOLTS on. Ive had mine off more times then I care to count along with new axles in the rear that were stage 5s with new bearings. Its a sealed bearing not a press in. You take off the wheel, caliper, rotor. Then you unbolt the axle and then there are 4 bolts that you get from behind the hub. They are a pain to get to but they are there. You unbolt those, hook a slide hammer with a yolk to the studs and one good hit will pull the bearing assembly off. put the new one over the axle, line up the 4 bolts and bolt it all back together.

Ill take a pic of the wheel bearing I have laying in the garage to show the bolt holes where it bolts on and that its an assembly, not a press in bearing.

and as for hanging it, just take a zip tie and hook it to the top of the spring. Works perfect. As for a breaker bar and tq wrench, F that, GOOD impact and take it off and then back on with the impact. its a 28mm shaft, it can handle alot of tq with no problem. I know my impact puts out 500+ ft pounds and ive never had a problem with putting the axle nut back on with an impact.

Just wonder is there any ways of just replacing the worned bearing instead the whole assembly with hub?
