Quartermaster Question

First off, I really am sorry for another clutch question but the search function on this forum is terrible at getting small details.

I just want to know exactly what the life expectancy is on this clutch. I'm going to be daily driving my car, I don't care how hard it is to drive, I don't care how much noise it makes. My town isn't a big city so traffic isn't that bad.

I might launch it once or twice to **** myself but besides that, it's my daily driver so nothing stupid.

If you have a QM, please post which version it is (1 or 2), how many miles you have currently, power level, and the current state of it (whether it's still holding or starting to slip or what have you)

Thanks a ton guys!!

Had both and why you would choose this clutch for a DD is beyond me!! Seriously, there are many better options for a DD, such as the Exedy twin for example. It lasts longer, is easier to drive, and can support quite a lot of hp and tq.

These do NOT last much past 12-15K miles unless you do the whole modding of the spline or whatever it is (version 1). Version 1 has been known to hold up to 800hp and the Version 2 is on the MAP Evo which puts down over 1000hp.

Do NOT get either of these for a strict DD.

This clutch will work fine for you given your understanding of it. It will be loud with harsh engagement (both the new and old), but will hold pretty much anything that you can throw at it. Like RunThat pointed out, just don't expect to get much past 10k out of it. If you are good with that then go for it. This clutch has the cheapest rebuild costs for a twin that I have personally seen, cheaper then the Exedy and Tilton, not sure about the comp or RPS.

I went with this clutch personally because I did not want the bulky 3 plate clutch such as the Exedy triple, but instead wanted a nice light clutch that could handle around 1000bhp and have very good high rpm shifts. This clutch also has a nice HTOB, an added plus for light pedal pressure and the added piece of mind not having to worry about the ring popping off as it sometimes does in the Exedy clutches.

Just make sure that you properly adjust your clutch with a clutch stop such as tilton's and you are good. This clutch will hold a ton of power, which to me outweighs its ~10k lifespan.

How many miles are people getting out of the Exedy twins now? And at what power level? I'm all for the Exedy twin but I'm just not sure if it'll hold what I have planned for my car. That and the rebuild isn't cheap compared to QM.

Also, is version 2 the 8-leg or just the same clutch?

Version 2 is the 8 leg and version 1 is a 6.

The mileage that you get out of any clutch will depend on how you treat it and the power that it is subjected to, but there are a lot of people in the 400tq range that have managed to get over 25k with their exedy twins.

I had both an exedy twin SD and HD. For daily driving you can expect about 30k miles out of it, but the cost to rebuild it can get close to $900, including disks, mid plate, resurfacing pressure plate, and resurfacing flywheel.

If you daily drive and only launch a few times, you could probably get a good 20k+ out of the QM.

No, you will not get 20k. I DDed it for 12-15k miles before I needed a rebuild, I only launched 3 times. I honestly do not recommended this clutch as a DD, although once you start using it, it is impossible to go to another clutch . I'm waiting for the more street-able QM and I no longer DD my evo.

V1 never launched not once daily driven 5k before it started slipping. Hytob started leaking after the second month. I'm not saying it is a bad clutch. It will hold pretty much everything you can through at it but it doesn't last. If you like pulling your trans at least once a year go for it. I'm an auto tech so working on my car isn't a big deal. My gf's evo with an exedy has 22k and still holding @563hp. To each their own though but if I was to do it over I'd get the exedy.

That might've just sealed the deal for me...

Thanks for all the input guys!
