Catastrophic Failure
Catastrophic Failure
I am looking at a EVO II, a while back the owner snapped the timing belt and when he had it replaced the mechanic said that there were two bent push rods. My question is if it would be cheaper to get a new engine r just replace the bent pushrods.
Evos dont have push rods.. Is he talking about a bent valve?
I lossed a T-belt a long time ago on a DSM and ended up with 5 Intake or exhaust bent valves (I forget which side it was), but they weren't real bad. Just replaced all the valves on that side and it ran like a champ after.

^u didn have to replace the pistons? Usually the pistons are in bad shape once they contact the valves. I know in my honda I did a money shift 1-2-1 at wot and before I could clutch it it was all over with, one piston had a hole in it from the valves and another was beat pretty bad.
You may of cracked a piston or worse. The results of a broken timing belt can range from no damage to damage so bad major overhaul is required. The common result, as stated above, is some bent valve heads. This may or may not crack a piston. If valve heads break off then the damage can be quite severe.

I went and looked at it today and the engine wouldnt turn over. Would having bent valves cause this. If the mechanic said the pistons are bent what could that mean. Sorry im new to the whole EVO thing.
Anyway, you need to tell us the actual condition of the engine - maybe talk to your mechanic again.
