I'm sure wojo will post up a review of it when he gets the very first production AMS downpipe tomorrow!
Just checked UPS. It's on track for delivery. Should be here anytime now!

I concur:

Oh and I have a custom 3" RoadRace downpipe, wrapped.

Definately more power. It's probably the most noticeable exhaust upgrade you can do. DEFINATELY worth it in my opinion.

Thanks!
How hard is the downpipe to install? I did the cat-back myself and thanks to some wonderful directions - it was a breeze!

Hi,

If I'm sticking with stock cat and midpipe, who makes dps that will work?

I have seen that Buschur has a 2.5" dp to work with stock cat and it seems like a good price. My only concern is whether it will be a noticeable improvement? I think noise increase won't be too bad, right?

Thanks,

So, do you like the catback? Too loud?

Import Tuner performed some upgrades on an otherwise stock EVO. I saw it in the magazine and managed to find it online for reference below. It seems that the Down Pipe does provide some gain but not nearly as significant as the exhaust. Go to the link below and notice that the Down Pipe (at least the AVO) have some high end TQ and HP loses. Unfortunately the Torque curve is not provided but you can calculate them based on the HP Dyno chart. Notice that the peak HP for the down pipe was a slight gain but if you look at the chart, it was achieved at lower RPM and the text states that there is a 2-8 HP loss from 5500 RPM to Redline.

Just based on the information provided by Import Tuner, I can't justify buying a down pipe yet. I'M willing to bet that WITH SOME TUNING, the Down Pipe will be a good upgrade when combined with an exhaust. I currently have a B&B exhaust, it's quiet, not a lot of HP gain but I improved my 1/8 mile time by .5 second and 3 MPH. Maybe it was the EXEDE map.. who knows...

I'm still debating if I should get a down pipe or not... for the time being, I'm just waiting for a Perrin Cat Delete pipe.

The Dyno result for the EVO:

HP Level HP+ TQ Level TQ+

B Baseline 236.0 HP 239.9 ft.lb

1 AVO 3-inch Exhaust
254.8 HP 18.8 gain
253.4 ft.lb 13.5 gain

2 AVO Downpipe
256.0 HP1.2 gain
260.2 ft.lb 6.8 gain

3 AVO Intercooler
259.6 HP 3.6 hp gain
269.4 ft.lb 9.2 ft.lb gain

F. Final
259.6 HP 23.6 HP
269.4 29.5

i gained about 4mph from the AMS downpipe and testpipe!

my avg was about 104-105 with just catback and the other mods in my sig..

i only got one chance to race with the addition of the downpipe and testpipe... and of course my clutch acts up!! i still got a 108.3mph trap with the clutch slipping all the way down the track!

One problem w/ this. The AVO dp is 3" that tries to bolt up to the stock 2.5" cat. From the pictures, it doesn't look like it smoothly transitions from 3" to 2.5", so you have to assume that there's going to be a noticeable 'step-down' at the dp/cat flange. No where does it mention of a taper, and the link to the distributer doesn't mention of any, either. Definitely NOT the way to maximize efficiency. This would easily explain the less than stellar results from the addition of the down pipe during their test.

AMS DP and High Flow Cat as of Monday. Very noticable gains.

RENN-ART - What was you solution to the lower control arms?
