Shiftlinkage problem!

Dont know if this goes here, please move if not. Two days ago my shiftlinkage popped out, first time it ever happened to me. I was ****ting bricks thinking i blew my tranny. Got the car towed home and while i was waiting for the two truck i called a few friends. They said to look at the shift linkage so i did. I was expecting the cotter pin to break but the shiftlinkage that the bushing goes inside slipped off. Now when i was driving home shifting into 3rd (first time also happened shifting into 3rd) it popped out again! Now the bushing is a little worn. I would like to know is their a temp fix to prevent it from popping off again until i can order some new bushings. Also will the new bushings prevent this from happening?
