Here is what your replies will consist of:

1. DO NOT USE ROYAL PURPLE IN YOUR LAWNMOWER!
2. AMSOIL is the best, saved the world 3X over and was designed for space shuttles
3. Mobil-1 isn't a pure synthetic anymore and FP doesn't want it near their CHRAs

My take? Use German Castrol found at Autozone. 0W-30 syntec with a red label on front and made in germany print on the back (still SL-rated). Don't confuse it for the other grades of syntec. If you can't find it, leave autozone.

^ Lol, great post.

To the OP, This is my take on it.

Use Mobile 1 if you have a stock motor/stock turbo and basic bolt ons. Use the high mileage, as it has more zinc & such.

Use AMSOIL if you have FP turbo, built motor, or are gonna be racing 24/7 and need the extra protection.

If you have a built motor, then ask you engine builder what he recommends.

I've used everything from reg Mobil1, Mobil1 High Mileage, Penzoil Ultra, and AMSOIL. All of it seems to be fine.

I guess I was wrong about the AMSOIL dealer lurking (or he is waiting until post #10 to prove me wrong)

Right now, I am using Mobil-1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Oil. It's basically the only half-way decent oil I can get over here through AAFES without going on the economy and paying 9-10 Euros (12-13$) per liter for weird stuff. They rightfully do not use our API certifications, but VW/Mercedes/BMW certifications so you have no idea what kind of chemical make-up they are.

With AAFES, it's either regular Mobil-1 (no HM), Royal Purple (don't have lawnmower), non-german castrol (go figure), or Penzoil. No one will ship oil/haz over the pond, so neither Redline nor Amsoil are an option.

So Turbo diesel oil it is. If M1 High Mileage was an option, I'd take use it, also.

Total Quartz 9000 is supposed to be good stuff, is it not readily available to you either?

Kylie is a mate of mine and believe when I tell you, he's like this 24/7. Kylie, the Amsoil guy is definitely trying to prove you wrong. That's the ONLY reason he has not made an appearance. On a side note, can't you get Motul?

I think the Mobil-1 0w-40 offers a little more protection than the Mobil-1 High Mileage 10w-30. I've seen the M1 0w-40 at like $6.50 a guart and the M1 HM 10w-30 offered in the 5 guart jug for around $24.50.

i run mobil1 0w40, my evo runs great. a friend of mine runs motul 5w40 300v, great results as well. it just doesn't make any difference to me, both are reputable companies. i used 0 weight oil only to have advantage for cold starts, lots of short trips here. so far i like what i see on my oil press/temp gauges.

Never heard of it, man, but I will look into it. I've seen Euro-Lube, Liqui-moly, Castrol, and then a bunch of off-brands.

You know it, Dre! I haven't seen Motul in any of the parts stores...nor do I want to imagine how much that would cost to change out every 4-5K miles because I don't trust leaving my oil in longer than that (fuel dilution). BTW..still parting out the evo?

I bet it is. If it's under 8 euros a liter..I'll give it a shot, otherwise, I'd have to finance my oil changes through some credit union.

I've heard 0W-40 was good, too, and we do have that here. I will have to look at some OAs to see if it's worth switchin over to from the 5W-40 diesel oil.

Thanks for the comments, guys...it's the only entertainment I have.

BTW, my upstairs neighbor is about to get smacked in the mowf with an open hand. He plays COD and has been screaming like Rick Flare for the past hour. He really has no idea that we're 1-minute away from having a cage-match in his living room if he doesn't simmer down.
