IC Piping
IC Piping
Hello fellow Evo owners. This question is primarily for those that had their Ecu "flashed." I am also thinking of doing this to my Evo. My question is: Is is necessary to changed the IC piping to aluminum since it will hold boost longer? I know alot of people say that they can see the rubber hoses balloning like crazy under boost( I haven't seen it personnally). So is it worth the money?
Same question...
I was wondering the same thing myself. My buddy has a brand new HD IC hose kit. He wants to sell it for $200. Same goes for me, is it worth it? Or should I just save my change and get the whole FMIC?
I seriously doubt there is any performance gain with solid piping. Changing the Intercooler might have some benefit but any gain from it probably does not justify the cost.
Now if you are going to run a big fat turbo then that is a different story.

The upgraded piping will help if you are dealing with significantly higher boost level.. Not really necessary to upgrade just the piping if you don't intend to make major modifications.
The only exception is if you want to go with Shorter (short pipe IC upgrades) which reduce the amount of bends, essentially each bend represents a point of restriction, plus the shorter pipes means generally better throttle response.
If your just upgrading to hard pipes of the same configuration you already have, its really not necessary. I know Buschur racing has a great short routed UICP kit (plus other cool stuff) And I've seen AMS also offers something similar.
I think the true theory behind using solid alum intercooler piping as opposed to leaving the stock pipes is that the rubber pipes can swell, or pop off.. Not so sure its an issue with our cars. Again, like I said earlier, shorter pipes with fewer bends are really where your going to see a benefit.
