Post Can older DSM Turbo's be adapted to work on an EVO 8?

I just recently purchaced an AGP L2R ball bearing turbo which was to go on my galant VR4. But i am in the proscess of buying an EVO, and will probally sell the VR4.

I know the motor is reversed, is it something as simple as making a manifold to house the turbo in reverse? The AGP is capable of being "clocked" so i think the boost outlet would work.

Any insight is much appreciated.

WRONG! The evos use lh rotation turbos and the rest of the free world, save the srt-4 use rh rotation units. You can use any dsm turbo if you purchas a manifold from buschur racing. That is a big piece in the kits they will sell which will use the br series turbos orginally intended for dsms. You will either need the buschur o2 housing or a custom one as well. Happy boosting!

Can we get a consensus here. That's one for yes, one for no. Can any one from Buschur reply?

With the right exhaust manifold, you can use any turbo.. as long as you can "orient" the turbo in the right direction (That is, the inlet can face in the direction you want, and there is room for the actuator (or wastegate assembly) then it can be used.

It will definitely work if you have the correct piping and/or manifold. Obviously it's still gonna spin off exhaust (derf) and it's still gonna suck and compress air, you just need to (like JayRu said) flip it 180deg to match up with the existing intake and exhaust piping, and have a blast.

Conversely, if someone were so inclined, he could fit a reverse rotation Evolution turbo on any car providing it were properly plumbed.

You may need a new DP or at least new flange on your DP, and honestly it may be more trouble than it's worth. You're on galantvr4.org, right JayRu?

Its funny you mention that.. After I'm done with my "Top secret" mods to the Evo.. my old turbo and intercooler may find their way onto a Saturn or a 4 Cylinder S10 Extreme.. (Don't worry, the engine will be built for a minimum of 16 psi of boost, low compression, O-ring'd head, etc..) I found turbo manifolds for both, its just a matter of replacing the mounting pad with one that works with the turbo you want.. Oh, and making the right tubing..

I used to be so overwhelmed with turbo design, now its something I consider very simple in concept and I've designed 3 different systems for friends already.

Yea, I love the turbo and i haven't even used it yet What can you say, good compressor wheel, ball bearing, can't ask for more! That's why i want to use it on the EVO if i sell my galant.

I was worried about the rotation of the exhaust wheel, i thought if the turbo was reversed, wouldn't the exhaust spin the wheel backwards?
Edit: nevermind, i'm an idiot; i drew a diagram and realized how it works. Sometimes you cant visulize it until you see it.
Are you a member of GVR4.org?

We have a manifold that would work with that turbo. Let me know if you need any info on it.

The retail price for it is $595 and then you will be able to bolt-on that L2R.

slowpoe, you have no idea what you are talking about. We have a 2 cases where something didn't fit right.

Ya, that right 2 cases where flanges where warped. 2 cases out of over 100 hundred products sold for EVO 8 is very very minor. We also took care of those situations where there was a problem asap. We have resolved those the flange situtation as well.

PM me some info or a link about the manifold. Thanks.

Also if you could anwer this question for me: Why doesent your downpipe fit like bushurs? (without modifying the braces) Is there some kind of advantage that way?

I don't understand what you mean. The braces are under the car and Buschur uses a spacer kit just like we do for the downpipe.

The manifold fits like stock.

I will PM you some info on it.
