supporting mods needed for 350-400whp?

I have an evo viii with just a tbe, crushed ix dv, and a perrin drop in filter

within the next month I am buying :

gsc s2 cams
licp
walbro fuel pump
1000 cc injectors
aem wideband
map sensor
mbc
e85 tune

my main question is : am i going to need a new clutch with all that power?

and also do i need little supporting things here and there for those mods? like springs, head studs, retainers... etc

if someone could give me some good insight that'd be great!

I would do 1200 on the injectors and spring and retainers. If ur clutch is still good just have money saved for when it does go out

springs, headstuds and retainers would not be a bad idea to do while the cams are being put in. a larger intercooler core would be a good idea as well but could be added later. depending on how you drive it and your mileage, your clutch (if stock) will probably not last very long but you could baby it and get a while out of it

I would at least start saving for a new clutch and save the launch practice for when youre ready to replace it. to put it in perspective for you my stock clutch lasted until 27,000 miles with similar mods. im a little rougher on it than you claim to be and had brought it to the strip a few times though. Just do your mods and baby it until you have a new clutch ready to go

- This cam does not require springs and retainers.
- I would reccomend you getting an intake with cone filter
- get a synapse BOV and pitch the stocker, i tried the stocker crushed and uncrushed

oh and plan on getting as clutch soon also,,,, making power will cost money btw

I knowww this is why I'm wondering if I should just forget the cams... I realize that once you get in to the 400-500 whp range the cost jumps up to the 10 thousands (built motor, etc) I don't want to spend more than 2-3k so I was thinking 350 whp would be just about right

To a point that is not true, with proper mods and turbo setup you can make that easily on a stock block, stock head. 350 can easily be done on a stock turbo and a good tune with an exhaust, intake and some injectors and mbc. I know I had a ****ty tune from Pure 2 years ago and I made 375 with meth and all it was, was a smoothed out stock map with 850s. Now I have an ef4 turbo on the way and now I have to upgrade to some bigger injectors and e85 and I'm looking to make mid 500s

You need to upgrade your spring and retainers and intercooler to at least 3.5" Start saving up for a clutch exedy twin yes please

Agreed. The stock bov will leak over 25psi. The new synapse dv is awesome.

Look in my signature I just had mine tuned Saturday and made 355hp 349tq on the stock clutch I will be doing the E85 tune this Wednesday and should make over 400hp on a dyno jet. I would definitely have the money for a clutch saved up I baby mine and I still will be planning on the clutch upgrade. Also do springs with the GSC S2's they are a more aggressive cam then most maybe all mid level cams out there. In my opinion headstuds aren't really needed for your HP level but if you do get them I would install them the correct way not the 1 by 1 method.

+1. There is reason not to upgrade the springs and retainers when you are already upgrading the cams. Especially S2's. Do it right the first time

thanks for all the replies... I think I'll wait a little bit to get the cams then since id need to get a bunch of other things just to be safe. Once I have money saved for a clutch + intercooler I'll do it. Maybe next spring or something :]

The list that you have should get you to 350awhp on a Mustang Dyno. I would get a new BOV (Forge, APS twin vent, etc.) and use a 3 port boost controller instead of the MBC.

For 350 whp you DO NOT need:
Larger injectors
Springs and retainers

For 400, get a IX trubo, o2 housing, ported ex manifold, and IC piping..

First off you should be thinking about doing a 60k before jumping into mods. you dont want to spend your money on mods when you could have taken care of that.

after that has been taken care of then you can look into one of our sponsors for one of their stage packages. you dont have to buy from them but it will give you an idea of what to look for in modding your evo. My advise and this is just advice, try not to piece your setup too much. if your gonna go with buschur/ams..etc try to stick with them. mismatched parts may not work as well as others and the last thing you want to do is buy twice..trust me that sucks.

if you have any questions feel free to pm me and I will be gladly to help you.
