5th gear grind...

Hey guys, just bought the evo recently and i LOVE it!

But ive been noticing an issue. Everything if I hit pass 60mph and i shift into 5th gear from 4th, it will grind a little.
If i am at like 80mph and i take it out of 5th and leave it on neutral and put it back into 5th and have it engage, it grinds harder than it would if i was switchin from 4th to 5th.
BUT if i was to step on clutch, while holding onto the clutch and put it in 4th (not engaging it at 4th) and take it right out and put it in 5th and have it engage then it will not grind...

Is this a sign of the tranny going... =[

Thats a good question because I noticed the same issue with my 4G93 Mirage going from 3rd to 4th, but never 5th. Try pushing the clutch down harder even if you're already pushing it down to the floor. I don't think its a sign that the transmission is going, although, i'm not a transmission/gearbox specialist . if anything, i would think it's your clutch going or even more specifically, the clutch is too hot.

What year is your car? How many miles? Aftermarket clutch? I'm thinking it's prolly your synchro. Common problem sad to say bro. But yes, Redline MT90 in the tranny. Use Redline 75W-90 in the T-case and rear diff.

I had the same problem. I changed my tranny fluid and put in Redline MT90. It's not bad at all now

5th gear

The synchro is likely going bad...I would start getting things inline for a tranny rebuild, because that's the only thing that will fix it (not different fluid). Also, if you do decide to drain the trans, take a look at what comes out...if its metallic goo then that's little pieces of your gear coming out

any grind is NO GOOD ever..
unless you dont kno how to drive, then you are grinding every gear lol
it is still gonna last you a good while but a rebuild would be great
when you are grinding diff fluid is not goona stop it nor stop the ware

I put 1qt MT90 and 1 MTL thats what people have told me to use, and its your synchros mine does it also just go easy on her untill you can upgrade. Also dont use anything other than Redline or Diaqueen in the Tcase or Tranny lots of bad story's about using other stuff.

Given the gap between a relatively short 4th and a tall 5th, the synchro takes a little longer to catch up and shifting fast wears it out over time. I don't think Mitsu engineers ever figured that anyone is his right mind would be doing that.
