I was looking to buy a 2.4 block for my winter build. My question is I was looking to get a 2.4 block from a junkyard. What should I look out for and should I get this block out of a certain car. They have 4 Galant 2.4 16valve engines there from 96',97' and 98'. I will be having freeze plugs replaced and cleaned/honed and all that good stuff. Any info/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

i would just get the block out of the eclipse and use that one OR just buy one from AWD Motorsports for 500 with crank OR there is a guys selling 2 blocks with cranks in the forums for around same price.

 

Reason I was leaning this way is because it will cost 100 bucks over 500

 

So will the 2.4 out of that 97 galant work?

 

I believe that's too old.. Maybe for DSM but not a Evo

I think its either 02 or 03 and above lancer non turbo 2.4l block should work

 

those years eclipse as well

 

2000-2005 GS eclipses have the 4g64

 

1999 and up Galant,and 2000 and up eclipse 2.4 should work,earlier 2.4s were on the left side of the car therefore making it impossible to attach other important stuff to the engine like alternator and a/c compressor,if they were installed on the right side of the car as in an Evo,since they would be in opposites sides then.Hope this info can help.
