Car bellowing smoke, cooolant on top of pistons, running out of ideas..

OK New Build on a diff car ..

car runs good no miss just SMOKES BAD
car smokes like a train.... pull spark plugs can see liquid on top of pistons...

did a compression test all cyl... 150

thinking the NEW COMETIC head gasket had a flaw we tear the head off... nothing visually wrong

so we noticed when we pulled the turbo off that 2 exhaust ports on the head were coated in fluid (coolant) as well as the turbo and the exhaust is spitting it out when running..

no visual issue w/ HG so we put a new HG on and now we still have the same issue...

could the head be cracked? is there something stupid?

intercooler piping is dry
intake is a little nasty but not horrible

how do we determine where the leak is?

thanks in advance

You can do a leakdown test and see if something is leaking, if that doesnt show where its leaking from there could be a crack in the head.

My guess would be the head gasket just isnt sealing off the coolant jackets good enough though

Head ported? If it is and it was ported heavy, check the exhaust ports on 1 and 4.

stock head stock cams ... only the 2 cyl next to the cam gears (1&2?) had coolant in the exhaust ports..

and we thought HG too so se put a all new Cometic HG on and torqued down to 100 ft lbs

wouldnt think the head would need torqed down any more?

i dont see how the head could magically crack just sitting on the bench for a week?

its gotta be something stupid

The Cometic head gasket could be a problem, I used a couple in my Honda's a few years back and they would leak. Thats why most people just stick to stock

I'd bet the Cometic gasket based on what you've said so far.

There's a picture comparing Cometic vs OEM vs Cosworth.

Do a coolant system pressure test. When you get the system up to operating pressure leaks will show up the pressure will drop slowly..depending on size of leak.

FWIW, I have a Cometic HG in my car, no problems. It was recommended by English Racing during my engine build.

If the headgasket has absolutely zero issues, the only possibility is a crack in the head, or your head or block is not flat. Have the shop check for flatness within factory specs.

going to pull turbo kit tonight and do a coolant pressure test and see if we can see anything coming out of those 2 head ports that were drenched...
