Well, I doubt they left all the drain back holes plugged. If, in fact, this is paper towel, they probably overlooked one hole. I almost left one hole plugged after installing valve stem seals on my engine - spotted it in one last lookover before putting on the cover.

Paper towel getting to the oil pickup isn't what you want but I'm not sure it would plug it. I guess the truth would lie in the looking. Beyond that the filter should stop paper getting anywhere else.

There is also the possibility of the oil filter itself coughing up it's paper filter element and feeding it into the oil lines - rare but possible.

So, I suggest taking a look at the oil pickup and cutting open the filter.

Sounds like paper towel dropped into the oil pan
You'll probably find that the pick up is clogged with this stuff, thus causing the engine to fail.
It sucks, and there is no way you can prove fault to anyone.
That is the dark side of modification.

whats your oil level at?

my guess is, they forgot those rags in the cyl head drain feedback holes.....the oil collected within your cylinderhead & eventually your engine ingested air instead of oil...

do you recall seeing an oil pressure light come on?

If they left all the holes plugged (anything is possible) that would be a ton of paper. That much paper would plug the filter and cause it to bypass.

^ wouldnt the paper have to get past the pick-up screen in order for it to plug the filter?

have you removed the filter & cut it open yet?

nope, not going to do that yet. Talked to the shop that did the install and sent them pics of it. They told me it did look like paper towel and they don't know how they could have looked over it, but for me not to worry. They said they stand behind all their work and will get me taken care of.

This was great news. I appreciate all the input on this, i probably would of still been thinking that it was steel wool if you didn't have me check it out with a magnet.

thanks

I can't say I know, I've never had experience with a situation like this. However, an oil pump that puts out 140 psi at cold start has got to have some pretty good suction on the other end.

You're still lucky as not a lot of shops stand behind their work these days.

That is excellent news that the shop was willing to stand behind their work. There are a LOT of shops that would tell you to **** off. Before I got my Evo I had a real nightmare experience with a local shop doing work on my RX-8, so I know how crappy it can be. One of the many reasons the only place I trust with my Evo is Agile Auto.

y wouldnt the shop not man up n take responsibility, there fault the paper towel was there in the first place. From personal experience word of mouth, can make or break your company, no company is perfect and theres not one whos never had an issue with a customers car. But if they deal with that in a professional manner and take care of the customer when it was the shops fault, man thats how its supposed to be. High five to the shop for takin care of the customer, not everyone needs to go to a shady shop, find a good one that does good work and takes care of there customers and theyll keep comin back for more.
