clutch slipping
clutch slipping
hey guys
i'm fairly new to the forum
and to my 'new' evo 9
it's clocked in 26,000 on the clock.
pretty good numbers for an '05 car.
problem is
i've been giving it a few test runs
when i floor the accelerator while i'm halfway cruising
sometimes the car overrevs and the clutch loses traction
it happens for a very short moment before it catches grip again
should i be worried at this stage?
or can i drive it around a while longer before it's more worn out?
i'm using a HKS twin plate system.
would you guys suggest overhauling it?
or getting a new clutch (ouch)?
thanks peeps.

The easier you are on it the longer it will last. You can simply turn the boost down below the point of slipping. Not sure on the HKS rebuilds but there are a lot of clutches out now, a few new ones around $1200 that hold up to 750 torque which is pretty cheap compared to the triple plate. It also depends on your mod path.

well i think i've been pretty easy.
i'm running 400bhp at the moment.
what would you recommend?
it's a daily drive, so definitely not a hardcore 1mm thin clutch that jumps at every traffic light.
the current HKS twin plate's pretty alright.
just wondering about anyone's experiences regarding overhauls on clutches.
cheers mikey
based in Malaysia, so that's gonna be a lil tough
i'll see if i can salvage my twin plate HKSes.
My regular workshop says that if i'm lucky, it's just a plate overhaul
otherwise i'll have to get the entire clutch overhaul kit (ouch)
he also says that HKS twin plates are really thin and usually wear out around 30,000km of usage.
Anybody can double confirm that?
